Liberal Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Ice accretion was 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches. Water equivalent was 1 1/2 to 3 inches. Tree and power line damage was severe.
This very large tornado damaged outbuildins, power poles, pivots, trees, a home, and a hog farm were numerous animals were destroyed. The track of the tornado turned enough that it missed Kismet and Plains. It was also on nearly an identical track to the tornado that occurred on May 24, 2015. This tornado continued into Meade county.
Eight to 10 power poles were blown down by the wind.

Episodes
Freezing drizzle and freezing rain occurred over much of southwest Kansas. The biggest impacts related to the storm were ice accumulations of an eighth to a quarter of a inch across far southwest Kansas from Johnson to Elkhart, east through Sublette and Meade. Reports of ice accumulation of a half of an inch were received from Meade county. Tree limbs and power lines were taken down by the weight of the ice in Seward and also in Stafford counties. There were several reports of damage to fences and vehicles due to tree limbs falling on them. Approximately 100 customers in Liberal were without electricity due to the downed power lines. Ice storms are rare in October.
