Episodes
An upper level disturbance combined with an increasingly unstable atmosphere to produce thunderstorms across central and east central Wisconsin. A storm that developed ahead of a larger area of showers and storms produced a funnel cloud and damaging winds that downed trees and power lines. The storm also dropped half dollar to golf ball size hail at several locations across the southern half of Manitowoc County.
An unstable air mass combined with an upper level disturbance and a weak surface boundary to produce thunderstorms. Some of the storms produced large, destructive hail and isolated wind damage. Quarter to golf ball size hail damaged vehicles in Rhinelander (Oneida Co.), but east central Wisconsin was hardest hit by the storms. Thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines in the Birnamwood (Shawano Co.) and Clintonville (Waupaca Co.) areas, and golf ball to tennis ball size hail caused considerable damage to vehicles, homes and businesses around the city of Manitowoc (Manitowoc Co.).
A low pressure system that passed through northwest Wisconsin dragged a cold front through the state. Pulse severe thunderstorms developed in a moderately unstable air mass ahead of the front. The storms produced hail up to golf ball size, downed trees and power lines, and destroyed a band stand in a small town park.
Unstable air combined with a surface front and an upper level disturbance to produce severe thunderstorms across northern Wisconsin. High winds from the storms, some estimated as strong as 90 mph, caused considerable damage to trees and power lines as the storms moved through north-central and northeast Wisconsin. Roads across parts of northern Wisconsin were blocked by downed trees and power lines, including most of the roads in the town of Nashville (Forest Co.) where numerous homes were damaged.||Power was knocked out to more than 15,000 Wisconsin Public Service customers in Oneida County, Forest County, Langlade County, Marinette County and Door County for at least part of the night. On the morning of the 24th there were still 8,500 customers without power, 500 of whom did not have electricity restored by late afternoon.
Isolated severe thunderstorms moved through Manitowoc county on the morning of the 23rd as a low pressure system moved into southern Wisconsin, dragging a stationary front north as a warm front. High winds from the storms tore the roof from a barn, snapped and uprooted trees and downed power lines. A tornado touched down down briefly east of Reedsville, damaging shingles and siding on a house, and snapping trees and large branches.

What Causes Power Outages?

What are the Top Outage Safety Tips?
- Stay away from the downed power lines, park vehicles in protected areas;
