The high winds also did severe damage to a store in the town of Woodboro (Oneida Co.). The storms knocked out power to approximately 5,000 customers in Rhinelander (Oneida Co.), 800 in Tomahawk (Lincoln Co.) and 1,000 in Minocqua (Oneida Co.).
Thunderstorms developed in hot and humid air ahead of a slow moving front. These storms downed trees and power lines and produced heavy rainfall and hail up to tennis ball size as they made their way across central and northeast Wisconsin. One of the storms dropped 0.67 inch of rain in just 7 minutes at Colby (Marathon co.).
Thunderstorms, that developed along an axis of unstable air, produced damaging winds and large hail. High winds downed numerous trees and large branches in the Crivitz area (Marinette co.) causing power outages to over 4,000 customers. Branches were also downed and a 30 foot tree was snapped at Three Lakes (Oneida co.). Half dollar size hail fell at Hiles (Forest co.) and there were several reports of penny to quarter size hail in extreme northeast Wisconsin.
Scattered thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front that moved through Wisconsin. Some of the storms were severe over north central and northeast Wisconsin during the afternoon. There were several reports of hail in excess of an inch in diameter in Crandon (Forest co.), near Crivitz (Marinette co.) and in the Coleman (Marinette co.) and Pound (Marinette co.) areas. High winds in Wabeno (Forest co.) uprooted and snapped trees, causing damage to some buildings, and downed tree branches and power lines. High winds also downed trees and power lines in Conover (Vilas co.). About 1,500 customers in Vilas county and Forest county lost electrical service due to the storms.
