Thunderstorm winds caused considerable damage between Chilhowie and Marion. Winds from these storms damaged seven commercial structures, three government buildings, and 24 residential buildings. Numerous trees and power lines were also reported down due to thunderstorm winds.

Strong low pressure tracked from Texas through Iowa from December 24-25 bringing a very strong east to southeasterly flow across the area. The winds gusted to near 60 mph across mainly the Mountain Empire counties and caused substantial damage to trees and power lines.
