October 28, 2011

High pressure over New England pumped in an abundant amount of cold air while low pressure developed along the Mid-Atlantic Coast. Precipitation well ahead of the low overspread eastern West Virginia during the evening hours of the 28th. Precipitation continued into the 29th before ending during the afternoon hours. There was enough cold air for precipitation to fall in the form of snow especially across the Potomac Highlands. ||The combination of heavy wet snow on trees that still had leaves caused numerous power outages.

June 28, 2008

Heat and humidity strengthened across the Mid Atlantic ahead of a cold front during the afternoon and evening of June 28th. This led to scattered thunderstorms which produced damaging winds in some locations across the eastern West Virginia panhandle. These winds brought down trees and power lines. Penny size hail was also reported in Charles Town.

April 21, 2008

A deep low pressure system moving east across the Great Lakes pushed a strong cold front across the region on late April 20th into early April 21st. Numerous strong to severe thunderstorms developed during the afternoon and evening hours across the region and continued into the following morning. High moisture content and training storms lead to flooding across potions of the region with several road closures due to high water. Several storms produced damaging winds that downed trees and power lines.

February 1, 2008

An area of low pressure over the Lower Mississippi River Valley moved up the Appalachians on February 1st. Warmer temperatures aloft combined with subfreezing temperatures at the surface to produce widespread freezing rain across the Mid Atlantic. A quarter of an inch of ice was reported across the eastern pan handle of West Virginia. Numerous traffic accidents and power outages were reported across the region.||Rain continued as warmer temperatures slowly filtered across the region. Up to an inch of rain was reported in Berkeley County during the afternoon and evening.

September 27, 2007

An unseasonably warm area of high pressure built across the Mid Atlantic in late September. A cold front moved across the region on September 27, triggering numerous showers and thunderstorms across the eastern pan handle of West Virginia. Several of these storms became severe, producing damaging winds that downed trees and power lines.
