Mc Cook Power Outages Caused by Weather

Law enforcement reported tree limbs of various sizes down along with a snapped power pole in northern McCook. The damage occurred near the time of a measured 79 mph wind gust at the McCook ASOS station.
Several power poles down. Two transformers caught on fire. Power out for two hours. Vendor tents at county fair blown down. No damage to more permanent structures or rides at the fair. Some large branches and a couple big trees down.
McCook newpaper related several lightning events in McCook on the evening of June first. Time of occurrence estimated from newspaper account. The first brought down an 8-inch tree branch. The second struck a power transformer serving the local Pizza Hut resturant on north Hwy 83. Another strike hit a street light and damaged a resident's home computer.
Several power poles down, and minor tree damage.

NPPD started early Saturday morning with approximately 8,800 customers across the state without power. Through approximately 3:30 p.m. that number was reduced to approximately 757 without power.
