Recent Weather Related Causes of Power Outages in Jefferson County

Thunderstorm Wind. Thunderstorm winds caused widespread damage across northern Jefferson County. In High Ridge, five large trees were blown down. In Arnold, numerous trees were blown down as well as tree limbs and power lines. Also, a semi was blown over in the Walmart parking lot in Arnold and a nearby fireworks tent was torn apart with merchandise blown all over the area. Several business signs were destroyed as well.

Tornado. A tornado formed on the northwest side of Pevely, MO around 634 PM CDT and tracked to the southeast into the northern portions of town producing minor roof, tree, siding and sign damage. After it crossed Pleasant Road it tracked in a more easterly direction, causing additional minor tree, power line and roof damage before lifting and dissipating on the western side of Oak Valley Golf Course and Resort. Overall the tornado was rated EF1 with a max wind speed of 100 mph. The path length was 0.93 miles with a max path width of 150 yards. No deaths or injuries were reported.

Thunderstorm Wind. A line of severe storms moved across Jefferson County. Numerous trees, tree limbs and power lines were blown down. In Pevely, a 51 year old woman was killed when a tree was uprooted by the thunderstorm winds and it fell on her. She had been helping her boyfriend move a hard top from a Jeep to prevent damage to it from the approaching severe storms. The boyfriend was not injured by the fallen tree. In Arnold, a large maple tree was blown over onto a house. The house suffered damage to the awning and gutters before rolling off the slanted roof. Just southwest of Festus a tree was blown down onto Route CC. Several unoccupied vehicles sustained damage from fallen trees and tree limbs.
