The incompetence and lack of empathy from a power company baffles me without words to speak. And yet they are said, who is it going to compensate for the food that was just purchased and is now spoiling after just did food shopping, who will compensate for my infant child that is suffering from the lack of a.c. Karma goes a long way my friend and the suffrage and pain you bring is inconceivable.

The power on the west side of Mt. Pleasant has been out for about 5 hours. It would be helpful to have a source of information to determine when we might have power restored; what plans we should make to salvage food; what resources might be available for seniors in the event of a extended outage without a/c.

Mount Pleasant: power has been out since 7:00 pm or so (now almost 11 pm). Cause is reportedly a power spike from Rocky Mnt Power that struck Mount Pleasant City power substation.

What Causes Power Outages?

  • Severe weather (high winds, lightning, winter storms, heat waves, rain or flooding can cause damage to power lines or equipment);
  • Other damage to electric transmission lines (vehicle accidents, trees, and animals can cause damage to power lines or equipment);
  • Repairing, maintenance or upgrades on power lines and equipment.

What are the Top Outage Safety Tips?

  • Stay away from the downed power lines, park vehicles in protected areas;
  • Unplug appliances and electronics, limit cell phone use to conserve battery life;
  • Use portable generators outdoors only, well away from open windows and doors;
  • Pack perishable foods into a cooler, keep refrigerator and freezer doors shut as much as possible.
