A band of strong to severe storms advanced along a cold front early in the morning on March 3rd. Reports of wind damage included several downed trees as well as power lines and poles. The corridor of storm damage stretched from west central Mississippi northeastward in the Golden Triangle region, exiting to the northeast by mid-morning.

Tornado. This tornado touched down around the northern reaches of the Ross Barnett Reservoir in Rankin County where a TDS was observed on radar. The tornado moved northeast into Madison County and across the Natchez Trace Parkway where a few dozen trees were either snapped or uprooted. A few mobile homes near Rock Road were damaged, and power lines near the Reservoir were damaged. The tornado snapped and uprooted additional trees near the intersection of Whiddon Rd., Ratliff Ferry Rd., and Holmes Hollow Lane. Trees along Allenwood Drive were blown down including some onto power lines. The tornado continued to snap or uproot scattered trees as it moved northeast into the Shoccoe community. It dissipated after it crossed the intersection of Pat Luckett Rd. and Mississippi Highway 16. For the segment of track in Rankin County, maximum estimated winds were 75 mph. The total path length was 8.96 miles across the two counties.

Thunderstorm Wind. Trees were blown down across northern Rankin County, including several that fell across power lines.

Thunderstorm Wind. Numerous outflow boundaries collided to form a severe thunderstorm. This thunderstorm resulted in multiple trees being blown down in the 1400-1500 block of Midway Road. Power lines were also blown down and two homes sustained roof damage. The roof was also blown off of a chicken house and a tree was blown down across Highway 43 at Mary Crapps Road.
