Napoleon Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Power lines were reported down south of Napoleon along North Dakota Highway 3. Also, a 70 foot tall electrical high-voltage structure toppled over. Significant farm damage occurred.
There was significant damage to farms from about six miles west of Napoleon to about two miles northwest of Napoleon. Damage was done to pole barns and other outbuildings. Six power poles were snapped and one cow was killed in the area west of Napoleon. There was also crop damage.
Wind gusts up to near 50 mph combined with falling snow and existing loose snow cover to create widespread blizzard conditions across Logan County. The strong winds and blizzard conditions resulted in additional downed power lines and delayed the repair of existing downed power lines.
A wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow spread north across the local area. Precipitation eventually changed over to all snow, with up to five inches of accumulations reported by Saturday morning. Hazardous travel conditions and continued power outages resulted.
