A cold front pushed south across northwest North Carolina, sparking severe thunderstorms in the region. Winds from the severe thunderstorms brought down umerous trees and power lines, creating power outages that affected several thousand homes in the Eden area.

Thunderstorm Wind. Widespread areas of trees were downed or uprooted by thunderstorms winds in the Eden area, with at least one tree causing minor damage to a roof. Numerous powerlines were also downed, causing a loss of power to over 5,000 customers.

Remnants of Hurricane Ian moved north-northwest from the South Carolina coast into the northwest North Carolina counties. Ian was classified as a post-tropical system by the time it reached central and northwest North Carolina during the late hours of September 30th, 2022. Strong low level shear and abundant tropical moisture brought strong winds to much of the area, resulting in thousands of power outages and many downed trees. The remnants of Ian continued to impact the area overnight through the morning hours of October 1, 2022.
