Low pressure rapidly deepened as it tracked north from the North Carolina coast Thursday morning the 25th of February to over the Tri-State area by Thursday evening. This was in response to a powerful upper level disturbance approaching the Eastern U.S coast. The low presure area then rotated over the region through Friday afternoon before finally lifting out on Saturday. This low brought a combination of heavy snow, heavy rain, coastal flooding and strong winds to the region Wednesday Night through Friday. One to two feet of snow were common across the region.

Coastal low pressure rapidly intensified Saturday night as it tracked northeast from off the Delmarva Coast...just southeast of the 40N/70W benchmark���and to southeast of Cape Cod by Sunday morning. This was in response to a powerful upper low approaching and then crossing south of the area. The track of low pressure to the southeast of the region and stubborn placement of arctic high pressure over the Northern US Plains and Southern Canadian Plains...ridging eastward...made for the ideal setup for heavy snow across most of the region. The rapid intensification of low pressure created widespread blowing and drifting of snow...particularly over eastern portions of the region...with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour and northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts 30 to 40 mph during the height of the storm. Snow totals ranged from 6 to 12 inches across the region...with around 1 ft across the NJ metro area.

Following the passage of a strong cold front, strong west winds developed. Peak gusts ranged from around 45 to 55 mph and caused scattered power outages.

An intense area of low pressure over the Eastern Great Lakes on the morning of February 12, tracked northeast and up into the Canadian Maritimes by evening. High winds developed near daybreak, right behind the cold front, and continued through the day. The strongest winds occurred during the morning and appeared to be associated with sharp pressure rises right behind the cold front. ||There were about 30,000 power outages across northern New Jersey, two fatalities, and delays of up to 3 hours at Newark Liberty International airport. ||The first death occurred at approximately 0630EST as a tree fell on a car on Route 22 in Mountainside, killing the driver, a 61-year-old female; the second death occurred at approximately 1338EST, when a large tree branch fell on a 61-year-old female in Newark. ||The following are some peak wind gusts across northern New Jersey: Bergen County, 61 mph at North Arlington; Essex County, 60 mph at Newark; Hudson County, 56 mph at Jersey City; Passaic County, 48 mph at Clifton; and Union County, 53 mph at Union.

A powerful low tracked across the Tri-State on the 8th, producing damaging winds across Northeast New Jersey.

As a strong cold front moved east, a wave of low pressure rapidly intensified as it moved northeast along the front. A line of severe thunderstorms developed and moved southeast across the region. This line enhanced the strong synoptic scale wind gradient in place and produced damaging winds. High winds downed trees and power lines across parts of the region. Trees were downed in Haskell in Passaic County. A tree fell through a house in Nutley in Essex County. Transformers and power lines were downed in Ramsey in Bergen County. Trees fell through houses in Union Township and trees fell near the intersection of Washington and Second Streets in Jersey City of Hudson County.

Remnants of Tropical Storm Ernesto brought widespread heavy rain and gusty winds of 41 TO 45 MPH across portions of Northeast New Jersey. This resulted in numerous trees and power lines down with over 100,000 power outages reported. An oppressive air mass moved slowly east across the region. This was preceded by a hot dry air mass, when temperatures reached at least 90 degrees at Newark Liberty Airport, from July 27 to July 31.Excessive heat occurred mainly from noon to midnight each day for 3 consecutive days. High temperatures ranged from the upper 90s to around 100 degrees. With surface dew point temperatures in the mid 70s, heat indices ranged from 105 to 115 degrees.Excessive heat resulted in 2 deaths in Newark along with scattered power outages that resulted in business losses. In Newark, an elderly couple was found dead in their apartment, which was not air conditioned. Severe thunderstorms produced damaging winds, hail, lightning, and heavy rain as they moved across the region. High winds downed many whole trees, large tree branches, and power lines.Widespread wind damage to trees and power lines was reported throughout Union County: New Providence, Summit, Union, Elizabeth, Mountainside and Springfield. A trained spotter also reported up to golf ball size hail, about 1.75 inches in diameter, in Springfield.In Essex County, the Automated Surface Observing System at Newark Liberty Airport measured a peak gust of 56 knots from the northwest at 10:50 pm EDT. Wind damage to trees and power lines was reported in Verona and West Orange. Significant wind damage was observed in Brookdale Park, just northeast of Montclair, where many large branches were snapped off from trees. Lightning struck houses and ignited fires in Verona and Irvington.In Passaic County, trees and wires were downed along Route 3 in Clifton, which blocked parts of the road.In Bergen County, wind damage to trees and power lines was reported in Hasbrouck Heights, Elmwood Park, Saddle Brook, and Hackensack. Heavy rain caused urban flooding along Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights into Lodi and in Maywood.

As severe thunderstorms moved across the region, they produced high winds. A trained spotter in Belleville reported downed trees. Law enforcement reported downed trees and power lines in Clifton and large tree branches down in teaneck. A spotter's wind system measured a peak wind gust of 58 mph in Jersey City. Other measured peak wind gusts were 54 mph in Bergenfield and 51 mph at Newark Airport.

As a line of severe thunderstorms moved east, it produced high winds that downed power lines in Livingston and downed trees in Orange.

A strong cold front moved through northern New Jersey during the late morning hours on Friday, February 17th. Southwest winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph ahead of the cold front were then followed by a period of very strong post-frontal westerly winds with gusts up to 65 mph during the early afternoon hours.High wind gusts downed trees in North Caldwell (Essex County) and downed power lines in Union (Union County), which caused partial road closures at the intersection of Anderson Road and Van Sycles Corner Road.

High winds developed after 6 AM on the morning of Wednesday, January 18th, and lasted until around noon as a cold front approached the region. Wind gusts up to 70 mph (61 kt) downed many trees and power lines, which caused widespread power outages.

A very moist and highly unstable airmass was in place ahead of a cold front on the 14th. Several rounds of severe thunderstorms developed in this airmass. These thunderstorms produced quite a bit of wind damage which knocked out power for several thousands of residents in Northeast New Jersey. Lightning strikes were also reported, some of which knocked out power and started fires.

A low pressure system developed in the Gulf Of Mexico and rapidly intensified as it moved north to northeast. The low passed over the Appalachian Mountains and moved slowly west of the local area during Saturday and Sunday, April 2nd and 3rd. Widespread heavy rain along with embedded heavy showers and thunderstorms occurred with this system. Storm Total Rainfall amounts ranged from 1.50 to 3.25 inches. During March 28th and 29th, only 3 to 5 days earlier, another low dumped 1.50 to 3.00 inches of rain across the region as it moved north to northeast along the eastern seaboard. These wet antecedent conditions primed the local area for additional widespread flooding with 3 to 6 inches of rain occurring in less than 5 days.Heavy rain caused widespread urban flooding. Most small streams and rivers overflowed their banks. In addition, high wind gusts from 46 to 57 mph, associated with heavier showers, downed many trees.Based on newspaper clippings and quotes from the NJ State Office of Emergency Management, the floods along the Passaic and Delaware Rivers, forced nearly 6000 residents from their homes and caused $60 million in damages; $52.5 million to private property and $7.5 million to public property. The flooding affected more than 3000 single-family homes and another 140 apartments and businesses.The Saddle River at Lodi reached its' flood stage of 6.0 feet at 8:45 pm on April 2nd. It crested at 6.56 feet at 1:45 am on April 3rd, then receded below flood stage at 5:45 am.The Ramapo River at Mahwah reached its' flood stage of 8.0 feet at 6:45 pm on April 2nd. It crested at 9.87 feet at 9 am on April 3rd, then receded below its' flood stage at 8 am on April 4th. Major flooding occurred along Route 202. Glen Gray Road was completely flooded and Bear Swamp Road was partially flooded.The Ho-Ho-Kus Brook reached its' flood stage of 3.0 at 5:00 pm on April 2nd. At Teterboro Airport, a 54 mph peak wind gust was measured at 8:26 pm. Spotters reported numerous trees downed in North Arlington. Other spotter reports included a downed tree and pole on Terrace Ave. near Madison Ave. in Hasbrouck Heights. Power lines were downed on Masonicus Road and East Cresent Ave. in Mahwah. Large branches and a few trees were downed throughout the Borough of Wood Ridge.Essex County - 52 mph at Newark Airport on April 2nd at 7:30 pm. Spotters reported a tree down in Belleville and Nutley.Hudson County - from 44 mph at Kearny on April 2nd at 7:12 pm to 53 mph at Jersey City on April 3rd at 5:00 am. Spotters reported roof damage in Jersey City and a large tree fell onto a house in Harrison.Union County - 37 mph at Elizabeth on April 2nd.

As a rapidly intensifying low pressure system moved northeast, its' associated strong cold front swept east of the area between 3 am and 6 am. With high pressure building east behind this front, strong and gusty west winds occurred. The highest winds occurred behind this front, mainly during the morning and early afternoon. After a brief "lull," west winds peaked once again during Thursday evening, November 13th. High winds downed numerous trees and power lines, which resulted in widespread power outages throughout the area. Thousands of power outages were confirmed by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.Here are selected high wind measurements and damage reports from across the region.In Bergen County, high winds downed trees onto power lines, which resulted in a partial closure of Rosalie and Hopper Roads at 7:20 am. Spotters also reported numerous trees and power lines downed, which resulted in partial road closures in North Arlington. At Teterboro Airport, the highest sustained wind speed was 37 MPH at 7:41 am and the highest wind gust was 47 MPH at 1:31 pm.In Essex County, the broadcast media reported downed power lines in Newark at 8:00 am. A spotter's wind system measured a gust to 58 MPH at Maplewood at 12:30 pm. At Newark Airport, the highest sustained wind speed was 46 MPH at 1:52 pm and the highest wind gust was 58 MPH at 12:54 pm. At Caldwell Airport, the highest wind gust was 47 MPH at 9:35 pm. A 71 year old man was injured around 9:20 am when a live utility wire fell on his head.In Hudson County, a spotter's wind system in the Jersey City-North Bergen area, measured a wind gust to 59 MPH at 12:30 pm. A spotter's wind system in Harrison measured a wind gust to 51 MPH at 12:51 pm.

As a cold front approached the East coast on the morning of Tuesday, September 23rd, showers and thunderstorms developed just ahead of it. Some of these storms developed into severe thunderstorms over Northeast New Jersey. Damage from severe winds was widespread in Essex and Passaic Counties. The Essex County Emergency Management reported numerous power lines downed in Cedar Grove, Essex Falls, Irvington and Millburn. Emergency Managers in Passaic County reported several trees down in West Milford and Wayne and power lines down in North Haledon.

As Hurricane Isabel moved northwest toward the southern Mid Atlantic States, a strong high pressure system built over Northern New England. As the pressure gradient increased, strong northeast winds developed across the region Thursday, September 18th. Hurricane Isabel made landfall near Drum Inlet, North Carolina at 1 pm on the eighteenth. As Isabel accelerated toward the north northwest, tropical storm force winds rapidly expanded north. Tropical storm force winds of 39 miles per hour (mph) occurred across parts of Union, Essex, and Hudson Counties from Thursday evening through Thursday night. Elsewhere, east winds were sustained between 25 and 35 mph with peak gusts between 35 and 45 mph. When strong winds were accompanied by bands of heavy showers, many trees, tree limbs, and power lines were downed across the region. The greatest damage occurred across Union, Essex, and Hudson Counties. In Union County, high winds downed many trees and wires, which resulted in the closure of major streets and schools. In Hudson County, several trees fell onto and damaged cars.These strong winds resulted in 3 injuries in Bergen County:In Englewood, police reported that a 31 year old woman was injured when winds toppled a tree onto her car on Tenafly Road.In East Rutherford, police reported that a 12th floor window blew out at the Metromedia building across from Giants Stadium. The glass struck and injured 2 women. Here are selected wind velocity measurements across the region:In Essex County, the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) at Newark Airport measured a sustained 2 minute wind velocity of 32 mph from 100 degrees at 1:19 am EDT on the 19th with a peak gust to 44 mph from 120 degrees at 2:43 am EDT on the 19th.In Hudson County, a spotter in Harrison measured a peak wind gust to 43 mph at 3:20 am on the nineteenth.In Bergen County, the ASOS at Teterboro Airport measured a peak wind gust to 40 mph.

A cold front moved across the region during the pre-dawn hours, early on Wednesday, January 1st before stalling just off the coast later that day. During the evening on January 1st, a developing area of low pressure began to move northeast from the Delmarva Peninsula along the frontal boundary. By morning, the center of the low moved well off to the northeast of the New England coast. During the day on Thursday, January 2nd, a second area of low pressure began to develop over Virginia. This low quickly intensified and took over as the primary storm as it moved slowly northeast Thursday night. The center of this low pressure system was south of Long Island by Friday afternoon, and just southeast of Nantucket by Saturday morning.Light and spotty precipitation, generally in the form of snow fell across Northeastern New Jersey just before midnight on the night of January 2nd into the 3rd. This intermittent light snow continued through the night. On the morning of Thursday, January 3rd, a steady light precipitation began to fall. This precipitation continued through the afternoon and evening, before tapering off to flurries shortly after midnight on the night of January 3rd into the 4th. These flurries ended around daybreak early on the morning of January 4th. The bulk of the precipitation for this event southeast of the Elizabeth to Newark corridor fell as rain. Along this corridor, rain occasionally mixed with sleet and/or freezing rain. To the west of this corridor, most of the precipitation fell in the form of sleet and freezing rain. Snow also mixed in with the sleet and freezing rain, yielding snowfall amounts from 1 to 4 inches. However, significant ice accumulated on trees, power lines, and roads.

A strong pressure gradient developed between Hurricane Gustav, which intensified as it moved offshore, and a high pressure system, which built southeast. High winds quickly developed behind a strong cold front that trailed from a low pressure system over Northeast New England around 10:00 am EDT.Wind speeds were sustained from 25 to 35 mph with peak gusts from 45 and 55 mph. The highest wind gust measured by the Automated Surface Observing System at Newark/Liberty Airport was 53 mph at 1:30 pm EDT. These winds, which lasted at least 6 hours, resulted in 1 death, 12 injuries, and significant power outages caused by down trees.At Westfield High School in Union County, New Jersey, high winds "snapped" an enormous "rotted" limb from an Oak Tree, which killed 1 student and injured 12 other students. Two students that were critically injured were air lifted while the other 10 students were treated at local emergency rooms. This limb was as big as a small tree. The students were eating lunch at picnic tables outdoors around 1 pm EDT.

As a line of severe thunderstorms moved east, it produced high winds that downed numerous trees and wires in Union and power lines in both West Orange and Bayonne.

In Bloomfield, spotters reported damage to roofs, shingles, and siding on many houses. The NWS ASOS system measured a peak wind gust to 76 MPH at Newark Airport at 5:48 pm EDT. A spotter's wind system in Fairfield measured at peak wind gust of 59 MPH at 5:50 pm EDT. Union County - Spotters reported that at least 75 trees were downed, some of which fell on power lines, and damaged cars along with a roof collapse in Hillside. Spotters' wind systems measured a 63 MPH wind gust in Garwood at 6:03 pm EDT and a 60 MPH wind gust in Elizabeth at 6:00 pm EDT. In Union, 1 tree fell on and injured 1 person near the intersection of Stuveson and Oakland Streets, which caused head trauma.Hudson County - Spotters reported a funnel cloud at the Manhattan Ave. and Kennedy Blvd. intersection in Jersey City at 6:05 pm EDT. They also reported multiple gustnadoes in Jersey City. Five 2 1/2 story framed houses under construction collapsed and a 20 story high crane snapped in Jersey City.Torrential rain caused widespread flooding of streets and poor drainage areas across central and southern Bergen County south of a line from Oakland east to Westwood and across extreme northern Essex County from Fairfield east to Nutley. Heavy rain also produced localized flooding of streets and poor drainage areas across extreme northern Hudson County (north of North Bergen) and extreme northern Union County from Summit east to Elizabeth. At 6:28 pm EDT, a police officer rescued a mother with her child, who became trapped in a car with rapidly rising flood waters at the intersection of Route 17 and Franklin Ave. in Hasbrouck Heights. Significant street flooding was reported at several other locations within Bergen County.In Essex County - At 6:02 pm EDT, water ponded up to 1 feet and covered many streets in Bloomfield.

A Bermuda high pressure system "pumped" hot temperatures and high humidities across the region.The 6 day heat wave began on Sunday, August 5th, when temperatures first reached 90 degrees at Teterboro Airport. Record high temperatures at Newark Airport were broken on four consecutive days from August 6th through the 9th. High temperatures reached or exceeded 100 degrees at Newark Airport on three consecutive days from August 7th through the 9th. Heat indices peaked in urban areas on Thursday, August 9th and were near 110 degrees. Heat indices on Friday, August 10th also reached between 105 and 110 degrees in highly urbanized locations, as humidities increased despite slightly lower temperatures.On Monday, August 6th, high temperatures ranged from 94 degrees at Caldwell to a record breaking 97 degrees at Newark Airport. Heat indices ranged between 100 and 105 degrees. On Tuesday, August 7th, high temperatures ranged from 96 at Caldwell to a record breaking 100 degrees at Newark Airport. Heat indices ranged from around 100 at Caldwell to 105 degrees at both Newark and Teterboro. On Wednesday, August 8th, temperatures ranged from 98 degrees at both Caldwell and Teterboro to a record breaking 101 degrees at Newark. Heat indices ranged from around 100 degrees at Caldwell to 106 at Newark. On Thursday, August 9th, temperatures ranged from 100 degrees at Caldwell to a record breaking 105 degrees at Newark Airport. Heat indices ranged from around 101 degrees in Caldwell to a scorching 109 degrees in Newark. On Friday, August 10th, high temperatures ranged from 94 degrees at Caldwell, to 99 at Newark Airport. High humidity levels on the 10th led to heat indices between 105 and 110 degrees.As temperatures rose higher each day, demand for electricity increased. Scattered power outages first occurred in urban areas on August 7th, and became more widespread on August 9th and 10th.Several large fish kills were reported in shallow ponds across northern New Jersey due to the extreme heat. In Saddle Brook, a pond in the Saddle River County Park had nearly 1700 dead fish, according to Park officials.

During Monday evening, June 11th, a surface trough moved east across New Jersey, propelled by a potent disturbance in the middle and upper levels of the atmosphere. This triggered clusters of strong to locally severe thunderstorms across portions of northern New Jersey. Damaging winds downed trees and power lines across portions of northern New Jersey, and heavy rains caused areas of flooding on roadways and in low-lying areas. Numerous cloud to ground lightning strikes also accompanied these thunderstorms. In Union County, lightning struck a chimney on a house in Elizabeth, causing an unknown amount of property damage.

On Monday morning of April 9th, a nearly stationary front extended from the southern Great Lakes to the northern Middle Atlantic coast. A wave of low pressure developed along this frontal boundary, and traveled east into southeast New York by late Monday afternoon. In response to this wave, the stationary front lifted north during Monday afternoon into southern New York State. This allowed warm, moist and unstable air to usher into portions of northern New Jersey.As a cold front approached from the west, scattered thunderstorms developed during the late afternoon. Some thunderstorms became severe and produced dime- to nickel-sized hail early Monday evening across portions of northern New Jersey. In addition, high winds downed several large tree limbs onto electrical wires, which resulted in power outages in West Milford and Irvington. Brief heavy downpours also accompanied these thunderstorms. The thunderstorms moved east, out of northern New Jersey by late evening.

A strong and slow-moving coastal storm produced widespread heavy rain and strong gusty winds throughout much of northern New Jersey from Wednesday March 21st through Thursday March 22nd. A tight pressure gradient between the intensifying low pressure system off the mid Atlantic coast and a strong high pressure system over the Canadian Maritimes produced wind gusts between 40 and 50 mph from Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday morning. These strong wind gusts, combined with the nearly saturated ground conditions from heavy rainfall, triggered numerous fallen trees to occur throughout northern New Jersey. Some of these trees fell onto power lines, leading to several power outages. In addition to the strong gusty winds, heavy rainfall also occurred during this storm. This heavy rain, combined with rapid snow melt from a significant pre-existing snow pack, created localized small stream and urban flooding across northern New Jersey. A complex and slow-moving coastal storm affected much of northern New Jersey from Sunday March 4th through the early morning hours of Wednesday March 7th. This storm was accompanied by a mixture of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain through the early portion of the event, and mainly heavy snow for the remainder of the event. Gusty winds were also present throughout the duration of the storm.On Sunday March 4th, a strong low pressure system moved east across the Tennessee Valley, while a new low slowly developed off the Mid Atlantic coast. The precipitation shield accompanying this complex storm system moved north and reached northern New Jersey in the form of spotty light snow and sleet by Sunday afternoon. The precipitation intensified Sunday night and early Monday, but as warmer air moved into the region aloft, the snow changed to a mixture of sleet, freezing rain and rain by Monday morning along coastal sections. Some portions of interior New Jersey received several inches of snow from this initial surge of precipitation.During Monday March 5th, the new low pressure system off the Mid Atlantic coast began to intensify rapidly. Heavier precipitation associated with this developing coastal low remained east of New Jersey through much of Monday. As colder air was entrained into the storm's circulation, any precipitation that did occur during Monday afternoon and evening changed back to snow. The low slowly drifted north off the eastern end of Long Island late Monday night and Tuesday morning, and then became nearly stationary during Tuesday. This spread heavier bands of wet snow southwest across northern New Jersey by early Tuesday morning. The low then began to retrograde slightly to the southwest during Tuesday afternoon, continuing intermittent bands of moderate snow across northern New Jersey into Tuesday evening. The storm finally began to retreat east off the New Jersey coast Tuesday night and Wednesday, allowing the snow to taper off and end during the early morning hours of Wednesday March 7th.The combination of heavy wet snow and strong winds with this prolonged coastal storm produced scattered power outages across portions of northern New Jersey. Here are some storm total snowfall amounts:For Passaic County: 6 inches at West Milford, to 8 inches at Greenwood Lake.For Bergen County: 3.1 inches at Fair Lawn, to 7 inches at Cliffside Park.For Essex County: 6 inches at Newark International Airport and West Caldwell.For Hudson County: 3 inches at Secaucus, to 5 inches at Hoboken.For Union County: 2.2 inches at Watchung.

On Monday February 5th, a developing low pressure system off the North Carolina coast moved northeast to a position off eastern Long Island by Monday evening. The storm then moved off the New England coast by early Tuesday. The storm spread a swath of rain and wet snow across northern New Jersey during early Monday. As the low rapidly intensified, colder air was entrained into the storm system. This changed any rain into heavy wet snow by early Monday afternoon across northern New Jersey. The snow continued into the early evening hours, before tapering off from west to east.Due to the wet nature of the snow, and the rapid rate at which it fell, numerous power outages resulted from fallen tree limbs on power lines. In addition, hazardous travel resulted across much of northern New Jersey for the Monday evening commute, which led to numerous traffic accidents. Here are some specific snowfall totals for this snow event:For Passaic County: 6.5 inches at Wayne, to 18.1 inches at West Milford.For Bergen County: 5.8 inches at Fairlawn, to 8 inches at Midland Park.For Essex County: 6 inches at Newark International Airport and Nutley, to 10 inches at Livingston.For Union County: 3.5 inches at Cranford, to 8 inches at Mountainside (at an elevation of 700 feet).For Hudson County: 4 inches at Harrison, to 5 inches at Secaucus and Jersey City.

High winds developed rapidly in an unstable air mass following the passage of a strong cold front across the area. Several measured peak wind gusts were at least 58 mph. They were responsible for causing at least 3 injuries, as follows:In Summit (Union County), a tree fell on and crushed a moving car, that injured the 2 occupants.In Glen Rock (Bergen County), an awning blew off a house and struck a nearby pedestrian.High winds downed many trees onto houses, cars, power lines, and streets, which caused significant property damage and power outages. On the Bayonne Bridge, high winds whipped across the Kill Van Kull, lifted a southbound tractor-trailer and dropped it sideways in the northbound lanes, which closed the bridge at 9:30 am.Here are selected specific peak wind gusts for:Bergen County - Although the peak wind gust measured by the Automated Surface Observing System at Teterboro Airport was 47 mph at 10:02 am, numerous trees and wires were downed in Hillsdale, a partial building collapsed in Rutherford, and a tree fell on a house and trapped people inside in Woodbridge.Essex County - Peak wind gusts measured by the Automated Surface Observing System at Newark Airport was 62 mph at 9:48 am and at Caldwell Airport was 50 mph at 8:27 am. Several trees fell onto and through houses in Newark.Hudson County - A peak wind gust to 58 mph was measured by spotter equipment from Harrison at 9:25 am. Numerous trees were downed in Hudson Heights and a chimney was blown off a building in Bayonne.Union County - A peak wind gust to 61 mph was measured by spotter equipment from Elizabeth at 9:20 am. Several trees were downed across roads in Union and many trees and power lines were downed in Springfield.

Lines of severe thunderstorms swept southeast across the region. They produced high winds that downed many trees and power lines and caused 3 injuries. A downburst occurred in Little Ferry.Here's a brief summary of damage reports received:In Passaic County, high winds downed numerous trees on Ridge Road in West Milford around 7:00 pm EDT and downed numerous electrical wires in Wayne around 7:13 pm. Large tree branches were downed in Ringwood.In Bergen County, a downburst produced wind gusts estimated near 80 mph that downed numerous trees in Little Ferry. Numerous trees and power lines were downed at several locations, including Hillsdale where a wind gust to 60 mph was measured around 7:12 pm EDT, Park Ridge about 7:18 pm, Saddle River and Montvale around 7:22 pm, and Paramus and Ramsey around 7:25 pm. Two people were injured from high winds: one in Hillsdale around 7:12 pm and the other in Ramsey around 7:25 pm, when a tree fell on a person. A building also collapsed on Jefferson Avenue in Westwood around 7:44 pm. At Teterboro Airport, a peak wind gust of 53 mph occurred from the west at 7:31 pm.In Essex County, a peak wind gust of 58 mph was measured from the northwest at Newark Airport at 7:31 pm EDT. A wind gust to 65 mph was measured in Orange around 7:32 pm. A large tree branch fell on and injured a child in East Orange around 7:39 pm. High winds also blew off a warehouse roof in Fairfield.In Union County, high winds downed trees and power lines in Elizabeth around 7:40 pm EDT.

As a line containing severe thunderstorms swept southeast across the region, it produced damaging wind gusts, torrential rain, small hail (less than 0.75 inch in diameter) and lightning.In Bergen County, a spotter reported trees and power lines down in Wyckoff, where a man was trapped in his car by a fallen tree. A spotter from Fair Lawn measured a wind gust to 58 mph.In Passaic County, a spotter reported downed trees and wires in Wayne.In Essex County, spotters reported downed trees at both Caldwell and East Orange. In East Orange, a tree fell on and injured a man on 64 Fourth Avenue.In Union County, a potential microburst occurred in Plainfield, where peak wind gusts were estimated near 90 mph. Several trees and power lines were downed. Some trees toppled onto cars, while a few trees went through houses. High winds ripped the roof from the Clinton Corners strip mall on West Seventh Street, damaging six or seven stores. Spotters measured wind gusts to 75 mph in Summit and Berkeley Heights. In Scotch Plains, spotters reported large tree limbs down.
