Strong, non-thunderstorm gradient winds associated with a sharp cold front resulted in multiple downed tree reports and power outages across parts of eastern New York Wednesday afternoon into Thursday (November 30-December 1). Behind the cold front, blustery west winds off Lake Ontario resulted in lake effect snow beginning later in the evening on November and continuing on December 1. There were reports of lake effect snows accumulating more than 7 inches which verified our winter storm warnings for Herkimer and Hamilton Counties on December 1. High Wind. Trees were downed along Route 28 near the Town of Indian Lake, blocking both sides of the road. Widespread pouter outages were also observed with over one half of customers tracked losing power at some point.
