A supercell thunderstorm resulted in multiple severe wind damage reports over Ulster and Dutchess Counties during the evening of Wednesday July 13, 2022. Additionally, the supercell resulted in a tornado and macroburst in Ulster County near Kingston, NY. The Mayor announced a Local State of Emergency (restricting all un-necessary travel in and around Kingston) after thunderstorms produced extensive tree damage in the area. At one point, over 6,000 residents were without power in the city of Kingston.

July 13, 2022

A line of showers and embedded thunderstorms progressed across eastern New York ahead of a cold front during the late-afternoon and evening hours on Thursday, December 2, 2021. Gusty winds accompanied the front and showers with widespread gusts of 30 to 45 mph. A few stronger wind gusts to around 50 mph occurred across Ulster and Dutchess counties which resulted in some downed trees/tree limbs as well as a few power lines, resulting in a few road closures. ||There were also widespread reports of pea-sized hail with this event across much of eastern New York. ||Winds continued to gust 30 to 45 mph throughout the night which resulted in additional damage in Ulster County. Around 4500 customers in Ulster County lost power at some point.

December 02, 2021

The remnants of Tropical Cyclone Ida resulted in widespread flash flooding over Ulster and Dutchess Counties during the late evening of September 1 where 3 to 7 inches of rain fell. The southern half of Dutchess County was hit hardest, where 35 roads were damaged or closed and at least one bridge washed out. The County Executive declared a state of emergency and restricted non-essential travel for several towns in southern Dutchess. Metro North rail service was shut down due to the flooding, and up to 2,000 customers lost power. A federal major disaster was declared for Dutchess County, which reported $2.5 million in damages to public assets and municipal facilities, along with an estimated $1 million in damages to private homes, apartments, and businesses.
