Oakdale Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Freezing rain pushed into the region before sunrise on the 17th. One quarter to one half an inch of ice accumulated across the parish by the end of the event. Power outages and hazardous road conditions occurred as a result of the storm.
Wind gusts to around 75 mph and heavy rainfall lead to numerous downed trees and power lines across the parish. Flooding in numerous locations was reported from 5 to 15 inches of rainfall. Major flooding occurred along the Calcasieu River at Oberlin and Kinder with crests reaching the 7th and 6th highest peaks respectively.
There was a voluntary evacuation from the parish. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down across the parish. Homes and businesses were damaged from fallen trees or wind. All of the parish was without power immediately after the storm. A 64-year-old female died from a fallen tree. Two persons died from carbon monoxide poisoning (indirect deaths). Wind gusts ranged from 80 to 120 mph.
