Recent Weather Related Causes of Power Outages in Muskogee County

A strong upper level disturbance translated from far west Texas through the Southern Plains on the 24th and 25th. Precipitation began as rain across the area during the morning of the 24th, but changed to snow during the afternoon and evening. Some of the snow was heavy at times, resulting in a swath of snow from four to eight inches across portions of northeastern, east central, and southeastern Oklahoma. The heavy, wet snow snapped tree limbs onto power lines, and resulted in some power outages.

Thunderstorm Wind. Strong thunderstorm wind blew down trees, snapped large tree limbs, and blew down power lines.

July 28, 2022

Tornado. This is the first segment of a two segment tornado. A long-track supercell produced this tornado, which developed near I-40 east-southeast of Warner, to the east of S 75th Street E. It moved northeast across Highway 64, and then crossed the Muskogee Turnpike near E 163rd Street S. The tornado then moved over the Arkansas River, and crossed into Sequoyah County near the intersection of the county line and Highway 10A. In Muskogee County, the tornado damage homes, destroyed outbuildings, snapped or uprooted numerous trees, and blew down power poles. Based on this damage, maximum estimated wind in this segment of the tornado was 100 to 110 mph.

Thunderstorm Wind. Strong thunderstorm wind blew down trees, and snapped a power pole.

August 13, 2020

Tornado. This tornado developed along Elm Grove Road, west of S 25th Street E, where outbuildings were damaged, and trees were uprooted. It moved eastward damaging or destroying about sixteen homes, destroying a number of outbuildings, uprooting numerous trees, and snapping numerous power poles until it dissipated just east of the Muskogee Turnpike. Based on this damage, maximum estimated wind in the tornado was 100 to 110 mph.
