Paintsville Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
While the Johnson County Mesonet, located 4 miles W of Paintsville, didn't report much in the way of wind gusts (peak 34 mph at 6:55 PM EST), there were a couple different reports across the county of damaging winds and downed trees/powerlines.||These reports include:|At 6:15 PM EST - The utility company reported a tree blown down onto KY-3214, as well as onto powerlines along the roadway.|At 8:35 PM EST - A public report was made of a tree down onto KY-40, blocking the roadway.
A tree was blown down onto power lines, causing the tree to then catch on fire. The incident occurred in the Redbush and Elna vicinity.
Half inch of ice accumulation due to freezing rain occurred near Stambaugh. The weight of the ice caused trees and power lines to come down on Highway 23. The highway had to be temporarily shut down due to the road being blocked by the trees and power lines.

High winds resulted in reports of trees down across the county. At 11:25 AM EDT, public reported multiple trees blown down near Sitka Church along Route 201. Then at 12:12 PM EDT, multiple trees and powerlines were reported to have been downed near Pickle Fork at Route 40W. A picture from the Big Sandy RECC also showed a large pine tree having fallen onto powerlines near Elna.
