Power Outage in Paoli, IN

There were multiple reports of tree damage and power lines down across Orange County.

Multiple trees across the county were brought down due to high winds, but power and property were not affected.

Ice was reported to be 0.2 inches thick on elevated surfaces. Power outages and tree damage was also reported.

Multiple trees were reported down on the western side of Paoli. There were also several power outages.

State officials reported power lines down on Water Street in Paoli.

The Orange County emergency manager reported 170 people lost power for approximately 2 to 3 hours due to trees down on power lines. Some lines and power poles were broken.

Local law enforcement reported widespread downed trees and power lines across the county due to wind gusts estimated between 55 and 60 mph.

Local law enforcement officials reported that power lines were down near Highway 37 near Orleans. Officials also reported that numerous trees were down elsewhere in Orange County.

This tornado touched down along Highway 37 south of Orleans, uprooting and snapping several trees. It expanded to its maximum width and strength one mile into its path, where it heavily damaged two brick homes and one wooden frame home, as well downing power lines and poles. In this area it also did extensive damage to several outbuildings, completely destroying one barn and overturning a tractor within. The tornado continued to the northeast, damaging another outbuilding a mile to the northeast and uprooting and snapping numerous trees before finally lifting in an open field 3/4 mile southwest of the community of Leipsic.

An NWS storm survey confirmed an EF1 tornado with estimated wind speed up to 100 mph. This tornado touched down just west of Tony's Marina near Indiana 145. Trees were uprooted and snapped. A large metal barn with cinder block walls was destroyed. The tornado then crossed Route 145 and moved in to Tony's Marina. Three metal outbuildings were damaged or destroyed. One of the buildings had its doors blown in...another had its metal roof peeled back...and the third was leveled and blown 300 yards downwind. Trees were uprooted in a convergent pattern. Some trees fell on power poles, causing the poles to snap. A pontoon boat was flipped over.

Trees were downed at the Patoka Lake campground. Unknown structural damage was reported, along with trees and power lines down across the county. An anemometer on a hilltop location in Paoli measured an 81 mph gust.

Thunderstorm winds brought down a few trees. Near French Lick, one falling tree took a power line down.
