Patrick Springs Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Strong winds across the county up to 52 mph downed power lines and left up to 1115 power customers without power. Damage values are estimated.
Skywarn-trained weather spotters observed ice accumulations from freezing rain ranging from 0.25 to 0.3 inches in thickness widespread across Patrick County, including around the communities of Buffalo Ridge, Woolwine, Charity and Stuart. Sleet accumulations up to 0.7 inches were also observed in spots. Key impacts: power outages; hazardous travel conditions; tree damage; schools closed.
Skywarn-trained weather spotters and members of the general public observed ice accumulations ranging from 0.25 to 0.34 inches in thickness across portions of Patrick County, including around the communities of Buffalo Ridge and Sanville. Modest sleet accumulations of up to 0.1 inches were also observed in spots across the county. The icing resulted in over 1,343 power outages. Numerous trees and tree limbs were also brought down by the weight of the icing. Key impacts: power outages; hazardous to impossible travel conditions; widespread tree damage.
One tree and a large limb were blown down by thunderstorm winds along Moorefield Store Road. The fallen tree severed a nearby power line.
