Power Outage in Prairieville, LA

The parish suffered widespread damage to trees, powerlines and homes due to Ida���s strong winds. Numerous homes also suffered minor to moderate damage, mainly to roofs, carports and other fascia. A few homes were more severely damaged by falling trees, including one where a man was killed when a tree fell on his home. Over 100 roads across the parish were closed due to downed trees, power lines and power poles, or other debris. This includes I-10 between Prairieville and Gramercy, which was blocked by downed trees. At the peak nearly the entire parish was without power.

The parish suffered widespread tree damage with mostly minor to moderate damage to homes and other structures. A few homes suffered major damage due to falling trees. Several roads were blocked by downed trees or other debris. At the peak approximately 60% of the parish was without power.

Delta produced sustained tropical storm force winds with peak gusts estimated in the |50 to 60 mph range. It also downed numerous trees and some power lines |across the parish. The Gonzales AWOS reported a peak wind gust of 55|mph. A downed powerline caused a fire to break out at a grocery store |in Donaldsonville.

Delayed public report of straight line wind damage along norwood road, near John West Road in Ascension Parish. Atleast 3 large trees uprooted onto power lines. Trees oriented west to east in direction of path of storm. Likely damaging winds.

Frequent tropical storm force wind gusts and some sustained tropical storm force winds led to minor wind damage, primarily to trees. Tree limbs and branches were snapped, with minor power outages reported. The Emergency Operations Center in Gonzales reported about an hour of sustained tropical storm force winds with gusts to 41 knots (47 mph). Rainfall across the parish was generally 2 to 5 inches with a maximum total of 5.54 inches reported at site ABKL1. One shelter in the parish was opened with 8 evacuees.

Broadcast media relayed photos of tree limbs down near Port Vincent. One Building had metal roofing peeled back near the intersection of Louisiana Highways 42 and 431 at the Amite River. Utility company reported 8000 customers without power in Ascension Parish. Event time was estimated by radar.

A NWS storm survey found damage consistent with an EF2 tornado near Sorrento, near the intersection of Highway 10 and Highway 61. The tornado touched down at a chemical plant and lifted a single wide office trailer, snapping the buried metal tie downs. The trailer was moved 50 feet away, where it landed on several parked vehicles. The roof and 3 walls of the trailer were removed. Two employees and three contractors that were inside the trailer when the tornado struck were injured. Officials at the plant stated that the trailer was installed in February of this year. The tornado continued northeast for 1.5 miles, snapping and uprooting at least 10 power poles before it lifted near New River. Estimated peak wind 115 mph, path length 1.6 miles, path width 50 yards.

A tornado touched down in Donaldsonville near the intersection of East Bayou Road and Green Gable Road. It damaged the roofs of several homes, and knoced down power lines and trees. It also shifted a small home of its pier foundation. The tornado tracked east-northeast near River Road, damaging a few structures, and continuing to cause damage to trees and power lines before crossing into St. James Parish. Approximately 18 homes were damaged in Ascension Parish.
