Quitman Power Outages Caused by Weather

A tree and a power line were blown down near Quitman.
A strong tornado moved from southeastern Van Buren County into southwestern Cleburne County about 2.5 miles west of Quitman. The tornado tracked quickly to the northeast, and removed the roofs of several houses. The tornado also destroyed a mobile home, a camper, a chicken house and a few barns and outbuildings. Several other chicken houses were damaged, as well as some vehicles. Hundreds of trees, power lines and power poles were downed. The tornado dissipated 5.5 miles north-northwest of Pearson.

An F1 tornado first touched down about 2 miles northeast of Quitman. Along the path of the tornado, a large metal barn was destroyed and another was badly damaged. Several other barns had portions of their tin roofs taken off. There were numerous trees blown down, along with some power lines and a couple of power poles. The worst damage appeared to be along Highway 16 just northwest of Highway 25 in the Pearson community. The tornado lifted one and a half miles east of Pearson.
