High winds blew numerous trees and several power lines down across the county. Additionally, a roof was blown off a mobile home in Richlands. Damage values are estimated.

February 18, 2021 - Winter Storm

Skywarn-trained weather spotters observed ice accumulations from freezing rain ranging from 0.10 to 0.25 inches in thickness across portions of Tazewell County, including around the communities of Tipton, Asberrys and Bluefield. Sleet accumulations of 0.5 to 1.2 inches were also observed in these same communities. Key impacts: power outages; hazardous travel conditions; tree damage; schools closed.

Thunderstorm winds blew down multiple power lines about four miles northwest of Tazewell.

February 24, 2019 - High Wind

Several trees were blown down across the county, with one tree bringing down a few power lines with it. In addition, a mesonet site near Burkes Garden, VA recorded a wind gust of 62 miles per hour.

A strong pressure gradient developed between low pressure moving into the Great Lakes region and high pressure over New England. The result was very strong southerly winds that brought down a few trees over Tazewell County. A power line was brought down near Tazewell by one of these trees.

A lone severe thunderstorm downed two large trees in Tazewell, and caused scattered power outages.

March 19, 2000

High winds in Tazewell County during the late night of the 19th and early morning of the 20th, downed trees, power lines, and snapped a power pole. There were many reports of minor property damage countywide.
