The Washington County Emergency Manager reported a tree blown down onto power lines along Deepstep Road.

A National Weather Service survey found that an EF1 tornado with maximum wind speeds of 95 mph and a maximum path width of 85 yards touched down east of Harrison Davisboro Road along Heards Bridge Road in eastern Washington County. The short-lived tornado crossed Heards Bridge Road damaging a farm outbuilding. An older, reinforced concrete silo collapsed bringing down power lines and leaving concrete debris scattered across a field. No injuries were reported. A National Weather Service survey consisting of an analysis of measured wind data, along with reports from Emergency Managers and various other local, state and federal officials, found that tropical storm conditions occurred in the county. There were numerous reports of trees and power lines blown down and some damage to structures. Wind speeds were estimated between 40 and 55 mph.

A significant winter storm impacted north and portions of central Georgia on Tuesday the 11th and Wednesday the 12th. For areas south of the Atlanta Metropolitan area and into central Georgia, the event began Wednesday morning the 12th. Rain mixed with and changed over to freezing rain through the morning hours, resulting in catastrophic ice accretions of a half to one inch of ice, with localized higher amounts, especially along the Interstate 20 corridor. Thousands of trees were downed and widespread power outages were reported, with some customers without power for days. The event ended as a round of light snow Wednesday evening.

Wind equipment at the University of Georgia mesonet site at Tennille recorded a wind gust of 58 mph. Several power lines were down east of Sandersville. In addition, the roof was blown off a barn east of Sandersville.

The Washington County Electric Management Cooperative reported that more than a dozen trees and several power lines were down across the northern part of the county, generally near Georgia Highway 102 from the Glascock county line to Warthen, mostly just south of Hamburg State Park. In addition, many trees and several power lines were also down along Georgia Highway 15 from Warthen to Sandersville.

A damage survey conducted by the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Peachtree City, Georgia, confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched down in north central Washington county, about four miles northeast of Sandersville, near the intersection of Georgia Highway 15 and Mayview Road. The tornado remained an EF0 as it tracked almost due eastward on a 33 mile long track through central Jefferson county and into far western Burke county before lifting. Within Washington county, the path length was approximately 11 miles with a maximum path width of 440 yards or 1/4 mile. Many structures sustained minor damage along the path of the tornado. A number of trees and several power lines were also blown down.

The Washington County Emergency Management Director and amateur radio operators reported that thunderstorm winds had blown down several power lines from Oconee to Harrison in the southern part of the county. Power lines were down on Georgia Highway 272 near Oconee.

The Sandersville Progress newspaper of Washington county reported that thunderstorm winds blew a large tree down onto a home on Elizabeth Street in Sandersville, causing the roof on the back of the home to cave in.
