Episodes
A strong storm system translated into the Southern Rockies on the 25th and 26th, as arctic air spread southward into the Southern Plains. Warm and moist air was lifted over the cold and relatively shallow air near the ground ahead of the strong storm system, which resulted in widespread precipitation developing across eastern Oklahoma during the early morning hours of the 26th. Much of this precipitation fell as rain. However, air temperatures had fallen to freezing and slightly below freezing in an area west of a line from Nowata to Tulsa to Okemah by the early morning hours of the 27th, which resulted in freezing rain across much of Osage, Washington, Nowata, Pawnee, and Creek Counties, as well as across northern and western Tulsa County. Light glaze occurred across this region, but prolonged freezing rain across portions of Osage, Pawnee, and Creek Counties resulted in one quarter to one half inch of ice accumulation, which caused tree and power line damage.
