Large trees and a power pole were reported down along Route 9P in Saratoga Lake as a result of thunderstorm winds. The wind was measured at 70 MPH.

An emergency was declared by the New York Power Authority at the Visher Ferry Power Dam at Lock 7 because floodwaters engulfed an earthern embarkment which is part of the dam.||Moderate flooding occurred on the Mohawk River at Cohoes. The Cohoes river gage located on right bank at School Street powerplant in Cohoes exceeded its 20 foot flood stage at 5:32 am EST Auguts 29th, its 21 foot moderate flood stage at 8:50 am, crested at 21.86 feet at 1 pm, and dropped below flood stage at 12:15 am August 30th.

A National Weather Service Storm Survey Team found evidence of damaging straight line winds from a thunderstorm, extending from Malta, across Route 9P on the southeast and east side of Saratoga Lake, into Schuylerville. Numerous downed trees and snapped power lines were found, with estimated peak winds of 85 to 100 mph.||In addition, golf ball size hail was also observed in Schuylerville.||Numerous downed trees resulted in the closure of Route 9P, from Route 76 to the City of Saratoga Springs.

Hot and humid weather ahead of an approaching cold front led to heat indices reaching between 95F and 100F degrees as well as a few severe thunderstorms across eastern New York on August 30, 2022. Heat indices in excess of 95F degrees were concentrated along the Hudson River Valley. Severe thunderstorms were focused across the Upper Hudson Valley as well as southern Herkimer County. Damage was mainly due to downed trees and wires, though lightning strikes caused two separate house fires. Heavy rainfall also led to some minor street flooding around Glens Falls. A few power outages occurred across the Upper Hudson Valley as a result of the storms.

A couple of thunderstorms progressed from west to east across eastern New York ahead of an approaching cold front from the north during the afternoon hours on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Damaging winds associated with these storms led to downed trees and power lines across portions of the Mohawk and Schoharie valleys and into the Capital District. Penny-size hail was also observed in Selkirk.

A lifting warm front across the region brought a hot and humid air mass into the region, leading to maximum heat indices reaching 95 to 98 degrees across some valley locations of eastern New York.||An approaching cold front from the west led to numerous showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. Some of these storms became severe with several reports of downed trees and power lines. A couple trees fell onto homes with another falling onto a camper trailer. No injuries were reported. A funnel cloud was spotted by an observer in Warren County looking northward toward Lake George. A lightning strike hit a structure near Galway, causing a fire. Sporadic power outages occurred as a result of these storms with more than 1,000 National Grid customers without power in Washington County.

A strong storm system impacted the region throughout the day on Monday, April 13th, 2020. This resulted in severe thunderstorms and strong to damaging winds across the eastern New York, with several reports of trees and power lines downed. Some of the hardest hit areas were in the Taconics and in Dutchess county where 20,000 people lost power due to the high winds.

Thunderstorms developed along a warm front across portions of eastern New York during the afternoon and evening of the 19th. A couple of these storms became severe around the greater Glens Falls area between 6 and 7 pm. Several reports of downed trees and wires were received, along with two reports of large hail. More than 2,000 customers lost power, with the highest density of power outages in the Fort Edward area.

A strong upper-level trough over the Great Lakes was headed towards the Northeast on Friday, August 4th along with a weak cold front. Much of eastern New York was situated with a warm and humid air mass, allowing for the atmosphere to be rather unstable.||Strong to severe thunderstorms developed north and west of the Capital District during the afternoon hours. The leading cell in this activity was particularly strong and produced a couple reports of wind damage and one report of large hail. This storm eventually produced a weak, brief tornado on Great Sacandaga Lake captured by amateur video. Additional severe thunderstorm development resulted in reports of wind damage across the Western Adirondacks and Lake George-Saratoga Regions.||A line of storms also approached from central New York later in the evening. These storms resulted in additional reports of trees and wires down.||As a result of the storms throughout the day, over 40,000 customers lost power across the region.

A slow-moving upper level trough brought several rounds of showers and thunderstorms to portions of eastern New York on July 17. Over 4,000 people lost power in Saratoga County due to strong winds and lightning. Road closures due to flash flooding also occurred in Saratoga County where two to four inches of rain occurred. Large hail was reported in Hamilton County.

An upper level low and cold front brought strong to severe thunderstorms to the region during the afternoon hours of Tuesday, June 27th, 2017. These storms knocked down numerous trees and power lines, primarily in the Adirondacks and Mohawk Valley regions. More than 8,000 customers lost power in Washington, Saratoga and Warren counties from these storms. There were also reports of quarter-sized hail.

An unusually hot and humid air mass was situated over eastern New York during the afternoon on Thursday, September 3rd. With temperatures in the upper 80s F, the atmosphere became quite unstable. With no large-scale weather systems close enough to produce widespread activity, thunderstorms were fairly isolated across the region. However, one of these thunderstorms became severe, as it moved southward out of Saratoga County into Albany County during the mid-afternoon hours. This thunderstorm produced heavy rainfall and gusty winds over the populated Capital Region, causing tree damage in the Colonie area. Some of these trees fell on cars and power lines, causing power outages across the region.

An upper level disturbance was situated just north of the region over Quebec during the afternoon on Friday, July 24th. During the early afternoon hours, daytime heating caused a supercell thunderstorm to develop in the upper Hudson River Valley near Glens Falls. This storm tracked south-southeast into the Saratoga Region, producing large hail and damaging winds. Some areas saw so much hail that it accumulated on the ground. The storm finally weakened after about an hour, after causing around 500 customers to lose power across Saratoga and Washington counties.

A warm front moved northward across eastern New York during the morning hours on Tuesday, June 23rd. Behind this front, a warm and humid air mass moved into the region. As clouds gave way to partial sunshine, the atmosphere became unstable for the afternoon hours. As an advancing cold front moved towards the region from western New York, some scattered thunderstorms developed between the mid afternoon and early evening hours. A few of these thunderstorms became severe, producing wind damage to trees and power lines. ||As the cold front moved across the region, the threat for thunderstorms ended in the evening, as a cooler and less humid air mass moved into the area.

A very warm and humid air mass was in place across eastern New York on Wednesday, September 11th. With temperatures into the 90s and dewpoints in the 70s, there was a large amount of instability across the region. A stalled surface frontal boundary remained well north of the region across southern Canada. ||As a subtle upper level disturbance moved across Pennsylvania, thunderstorms developed west of the region across central New York and moved eastward into eastern New York for the late afternoon and evening hours. Some of these thunderstorms produced damaging winds to trees and power lines and large hail. In addition, these thunderstorms produced a large amount of cloud to ground lightning, which caused damaged to trees and some structures. A historic church in Ballston Center had a brief fire due to a lightning strike, which damaged the steeple. Media reported that nearly 20,000 customers lost power as a result of the thunderstorms. ||By late in the evening, thunderstorms weakened and moved east of the region, ending the threat for severe weather.

A strong cold front moved towards the region from the west during the evening of Friday, April 19th. Temperatures were unseasonably warm with highs in the 60s and low 70s across the region. Despite limited low level moisture in place, a line of heavy rain showers with gusty winds was located just ahead and along this approaching frontal boundary. As the line reached the Lake George Saratoga Region, some of these showers strengthened into thunderstorms, with occasional cloud-to-cloud lightning visible. Winds on the leading edge of these thunderstorms caused damage to trees and power lines in a few areas, resulting in power outages throughout Saratoga County. Over 500 customers lost power for over 8 hours. The showers and thunderstorms ended in the late evening as the front moved through and to the east of the area.

Prior to daybreak on August 3, a cool front drifted across the northern border of New York State. Theair mass over the region was warm, but not excessively so. A disturbance in the upper air broughtcooler air into the mid level of the atmosphere. Cool enough to destabilize the air mass to the pointwhere thunderstorms could form during the early afternoon hours just to the south of the stalling frontalboundary. Strong wind aloft mixed to the surface in a few thunderstorms downing trees and power linesin several communities in Saratoga County.

On July 1, a moderately strong low pressure over southern James Bay Canada moved eastward into Quebec Province. An associated cold front trailing across the eastern Great Lakes moved through the Hudson Valley during the afternoon. The cold front sliced into a warm unstable air mass over eastern New York and western New England. The cold front triggered thunderstorms, some severe, which downed trees, power lines and caused some flash flooding.

A few thunderstorms fired up along an occluded front on the afternoon of August 20 in eastern New York. With a humid air mass in place, a couple of the storms reached severe limits and produced very heavy rainfall. A severe thunderstorm produced wind damage in the city of Amsterdam, Montgomery County. Numerous trees were blown down on houses. The storms trained over the same area and contained torrential rains. The WNYT-TV Local Network in Amsterdam, reported as much as 3.95 inches of rainfall in less than an hour. This heavy rain, over steep terrain, caused manhole covers to blow out on city streets as well as the formation of a large sinkhole on Meadow Street. The rain caused the North Chucktanunda and Dove Creeks to overflow between Amsterdam and Hagaman. This flash flooding resulted in a very concentrated area of damage. The damage included washed out and buckled roadways in and around Amsterdam. A three-mile section of Route 5W, Guy Park Avenue and Division Street remained closed until the following night. Many businesses reported losses, including Carpetland, All Seasons Motorsports, Fucillo Pontiac, St. Mary's Hospital and the Noteworthy company. Twenty homes were damaged, and one heavy rescue fire truck slipped into a sinkhole. In addition, there were numerous retaining and flood control walls damaged or destroyed. Flash flooding was reported in the Fulton County city of Johnstown as many automobiles were reported submerged on city streets. The cluster of storms slowly moved into Saratoga County and briefly became severe again. In Galway, Saratoga County, trees and power lines were brought down on Perth Road. Later, the same cluster of storms brought damaging winds to Washington County as trees and power lines were knocked down there as well. Trees and power poles were blown down in the towns of Fort Edward and Kingsbury.
