Extreme cold gripped the county for several days. Overnight lows were near or below 10 degrees Fahrenheit almost all week. The period of February 15-16th was the coldest with low temperatures between 2 and -5 degrees Fahrenheit, and the maximum temperature on the 15th was only in the lower teens. Wind chill values during the 14th-16th were between 0 to -20 degrees Fahrenheit most of the time. The cold temperatures resulted in an extreme amount of damage to pipes, infrastructure, and power.

Up to 4 of ice and sleet accumulated in Grayson County. On average, 3-4 of ice and sleet was reported and most of the reports were sleet accumulations. One media station in Denison reported 0.10 ice with 3 of sleet accumulations. Traffic became very difficult, including Highway 82 and Highway 289. Several traffic accidents occurred on the icy streets and hundreds of tree branches broke due to the weight of the ice. Due to the weight of the ice, the Lonestar Lanes Bowling Alley in Sherman collapsed on the 6th and the gymnasium roof at the Boys and Girls Club in Sherman also caved in. The roof of the Cooper-B building sagged inward due to the ice. In Denison, an awning collapsed at the Main Street Lumber, and several porch covers on house also collapsed. Tom Bean ISD reported minor damage to some of their buildings including roof leaks at the elementary school and a portion of the high school roof was sagging, plus a shed in the bus barn was crushed by the weight of the ice. Power lines were also knocked down by the ice resulting in many power outages. Sherman police reported 6 vehicle accidents with injuries and the Texoma Medical Center reported approximately 30 injuries due to slips and falls. The county preliminarily estimated $5 million in damage.

A wildfire burned approximately 500 acres in western Grayson County. The fire began near State Highway 56 and O'Hanlon Road, west of Southmayd. One barn and one power pole was damaged.

Two hangars at North Texas Regional Airport (KGYI) sustained minor damage to the walls and doors, a 30,000 square foot warehouse lost much of its roof, and a small storage building and restaurant suffered roof damage on the airport grounds. Two trailers were flipped on their sides, and numerous large trees and power lines were toppled. At least one power pole was leaning.

One minor injury was reported. In Sherman, a tree fell on a house that had to be cut off, and a house fire was started by a tree that fell on a power line. Additional power pole and tree damage was also reported in Whitesboro. The damage was caused by strong east winds behind a departing MCS.

According to a damage survey conducted by the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a lower EF-2 tornado affected areas of south and southwest Denison. Trees and power lines were downed. Dozens of homes, storage shelters, and businesses were damaged. About 500 homes in the area were without power.

Sustained wind speeds over 20 MPH with gusts as high as 40 MPH were recorded in Sherman-Denison as T.D. Gustav passed to the east. Large limbs broke and fell onto power lines, causing power outages.

At least twenty-five power lines and numerous trees were blown down by high winds, which were between 20 to 30 MPH sustained and gusted between 50 and 60 MPH for hours. A huge cloud of dust overspread the county, causing visibilities to fall dramatically. One large tree fell on and destroyed a gravestone. Several structures were blown down, including at least two large warehouses. On the 300 block of Houston Street in Sherman, the wind ripped the roof off a business and threw it onto another, causing the second roof to collapse. The huge impact blew out windows and knocked down power lines. Several cars including a police cruiser were buried under the roof debris.|Fires were also a problem, as the winds sparked electrical equipment and arcing power lines fell onto structures and grass. Small grassfires became large blazes due to the winds. One such fire occurred on Moore Street in Sherman, where a electrical substation's live wires sparked a grassfire.

At least 50 accidents were reported across the county in association with a weekend ice storm. Several of the accidents involved injuries. Power was also briefly out to residents as ice accumulated on and pulled down power lines.

A portable building blew across U.S. 75, leaving a trail of debris on both service roads and the north and southbound traffic lanes. Signs along U.S. 75 blew down near Washington Street. A tree fell on and destroyed a sunroom at a residence on McGee Street. Power lines were blown down across the city.
