Sidney Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
A tree blew down onto a power line 4 1/2 miles south southwest of Sidney.
Power lines and poles were reported blown over by the winds.
Snowfall across the country ranged from 2 to 3 inches at most locations. This snowfall combined with reports of sleet and light freezing rain to produce winter storm conditions and scattered power outages as winds increase to 30 to 40 mph.
Thunderstorm wind gusts estimated at around 70 mph caused extensive tree and property damage in the Sidney area. The county Chief Deputy reported that there was a tree down on about every block. Pieces of a roof of an auto parts store blew off and damaged several vehicles in the area and a grocery store lost several windows. A barn collapsed from the winds as well. Power poles were snapped and the power was lost across a large part of the area.
Episodes
A bow echo of damaging thunderstorm winds raced from around the Thurman area to Tabor and Randolph. The winds were estimated at over 80 mph and caused extensive damage from Thurman to Tabor and Randolph. A semi trailer was blown over on I-29 and railroad cars were blown off the track 5 miles northwest of Thurman, significant tree damage was reported throughout the area, some roofs and outbuildings were destroyed or blown off and power lines were downed.

A total of 9 semi-trucks were overturned on Interstate 29 west of Thurman. Two drivers were injured and taken by ambulance to a hospital. Interstate 29 was closed in both directions after the damaging wind gust overturned the trucks. Numerous trees and power lines were down west of Thurman. In Thurman, there were a lot of trees uprooted along with damage to roofs of homes.
