August 7, 2022 - Thunderstorm Wind

In Springfield, a tree was down on a vehicle and wires were down on Hartwick Street. A power pole was downed onto a house on Eleanor Road and wires were down a few homes away on Eleanor Road. Wires were also down on Blodgett Street.

Trees on Mountain and Southampton Roads were downed by thunderstorm winds. One of these trees resulted in the partial closure of Southampton Road. One power pole was snapped in half.

Low pressure strengthened rapidly as it tracked from the southern Plains to central New England, bringing a period of damaging south to southwest winds to much of eastern Massachusetts. Wind gusts as high as 62 mph in the Marstons Mills section of Barnstable and at the Blue Hill Observatory in Milton, while winds gusted to 61 mph in Stowe. There were many reports of downed trees, large branches, and power lines from Hull and Hanson in Plymouth County to Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard. Several roads were temporarily closed due to fallen debris.|In addition, unseasonably warm air in place over the region led to the development of a line of severe thunderstorms, which moved through western Massachusetts ahead of a strong cold front. Thunderstorm winds downed trees and wires in Franklin and Hampden Counties, from Northfield, Gill, and Greenfield to Granville and Southwick. The storms weakened as they reached central Massachusetts, where the airmass was more stable.

June 19, 2006

Severe thunderstorms downed trees onto power lines in Charlemont, and brought down trees and wires in Blandford and Russell. Penny to nickel sized hail was reported in Agawam.

August 13, 2005

Scattered showers and thunderstorms developed in a hot and humid airmass out ahead of a weak cold front during the late afternoon and early evening hours across Massachusetts. A severe thunderstorm moving across Blandford brought large trees down on North Blandford Road near the Otis border. In addition, high tension wires were downed by lightning in Hull, causing power outages.No known injuries directly resulted from these storms.

July 22, 2005

A line of thunderstorms passed through Massachusetts, producing severe weather across Hampden, Bristol, Plymouth, and Barnstable counties during the evening hours of 22 July. Severe winds associated with these thunderstorms brought trees, power lines, and tree limbs down across Hampden county. In Southwick, trees fell down on Davis and South Longyard Roads. Severe winds also knocked several trees down in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. Penny to one inch sized hail was produced from these storms across Plymouth, Yarmouth, and Dennis, Massachusetts. No injuries directly resulted from these thunderstorms.

July 19, 2005

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms moved across western and central Massachusetts, producing large hail, strong winds, and lightning damage across Hampden and Middlesex counties. These thunderstorms brought large limbs down on power lines in the Fairview section of Chicopee, knocking power out to approximately 4,700 customers. Penny sized hail fell over the Westover AFB. In Framingham, lightning burnt two holes in the roof of a house and damaged the house's electrical system.No direct injuries resulted from these storms.
