Power Outage in Springfield, TN

Severe thunderstorm winds downed a tree onto a house near Highway 161 and Corbin Sneed Road in Cedar Hill. Multiple power lines were also downed across Robertson County. No injuries were reported, and damages are a rough estimate.

An AWOS station at Springfield Airport measured a peak non-thunderstorm wind gust of 74 mph. Several hours of severe non-thunderstorm winds resulted in numerous damage reports, including downed and uprooted trees, downed powerlines, and roof and other property damage across all of Robertson County. The worst damages were reported in Springfield where a Twitter user using #tspotter reported nine fallen trees, one of which fell on a car. No injuries were reported. Damages are estimated.

This is a continuation of the event that began at the end of January 2023. Ice accumulations across Robertson County downed several trees and power lines. This resulted in power outages with an estimated 1,500 customers without power at one point late on January 31st. Treacherous travel conditions were also reported, especially along Interstates 24 and 65 with numerous wrecks occurring. No information was available on any potential injuries in these accidents.

A livestock shelter was blown into trees at 2341 Gunn Road near the beginning of the path. More significant damage began along Lamont Road, where an outbuilding was destroyed and several trees were blown down. Several barns and outbuildings suffered roof and siding damage, a few homes lost shingles, and several trees were blown down along Highway 49 from Lamont Road to Orlinda. A power pole was snapped at Highway 52 and Cook Road. An abandoned home suffered exterior damage and some trees were blown down on Highway 52 around Pleasant Hill Road, including two trees that fell onto an outbuilding. Scattered trees continued to be blown down eastward along Highway 52 to near I-65. Winds were estimated up to 75 mph.

Freezing rain amounts up to 1/4 of an inch fell across Robertson County from the late evening hours on January 21 to around 6am on January 22. Due to temperatures remaining below freezing, ice accumulated on all surfaces including trees, power lines, and roads. Dozens of vehicle accidents were reported across the county, and I-65 was closed due to ice. Several power lines were also knocked down resulting in scattered power outages.||Freezing rain changed to snow around 6am on January 22, with snow totals between 7 and 10 inches measured across Robertson County. A COOP observer at Springfield Experimental Station measured 8 inches of snow, while a NWS employee in White House measured 10 inches of snow. CoCoRaHS station Cedar Hill 2.6 N measured 7 inches of snow, while CoCoRaHS station Greenbrier 1.4 N measured 9.5 inches of snow.

Spotter and media reports indicated numerous trees and power lines down across Robertson County with scattered power outages mainly in southern part of the county. Several trees were knocked down on power lines along Empson Drive in Greenbrier. An NWS employee in White House measured overnight ice accumulations of 0.13 inches. Overnight ice accumulations up to 0.25 inches brought total ice accumulations from December 6 to December 8 up to 0.25 to 0.50 inches.

Numerous trees, power lines, and power poles were blown down across Robertson County. One power pole was snapped and fell on a car at a car dealership in Ridgetop. An above ground pool was destroyed in Cross Plains.
