Intense thunderstorm winds downed several power lines. At least 1,200 homes were without power in parts of Sterling and Atwood. The wind also wreaked havoc at the fairgrounds where tents and awnings covering booths were blown off.

A tornado touched down in downtown Sterling, causing extensive damage. At least two commercial buildings, including a car dealership, and one college dormitory lost roofs. Several trees were uprooted; one caused major damage to a home when it fell on it. A semi-truck was also knocked on its side. Downed power lines caused scattered electrical outages which affected about 6,000 customers. A total of 150 buildings received some degree of damage. Four families were left homeless and two residents received minor injuries. Some of the damage to property and structures included: $550,000 for damaged vehicles, $500,000 to the county fairgrounds including the stadium and arena, $200,000 to Sterling High School, $70,000 to Northeastern Junior College, and $20,000 to city property. The total economic impact to Sterling which also involved cleanup and repair was estimated to be between $5 million and $7 million.

Severe thunderstorms developed across Lincoln, Logan and Washington counties. The storms produced damaging thunderstorms wind gusts to 70 mph, hail up to 3 inches in diameter, and 7 brief tornadoes. Two the tornadoes in Logan County were rated EF1; they knocked down several power poles along State Highway 61 east of Sterling and near Proctor.

Severe thunderstorms produced very strong winds over east central Morgan and north central Logan counties. Peak winds gusts ranged from 65 to 80 mph, and downed power lines around the towns of Brush and Hillrose.

Severe thunderstorms produced intense winds across portions of Logan and Phillips counties. Tree and crop damage was observed. In addition, a power pole was knocked down. The storms also produced quarter size hail and one brief tornado in an open field.

Severe thunderstorms produced damaging wind and hail over parts of Logan, Morgan and Washington counties. The hail ranged from quarter to tennis ball size, with straght-line wind gusts to 80 mph. Extensive damage to crops and property was reported over western Logan County. Irrigation pivots were flipped and power poles broken. Corn crops were damaged or destroyed.

Severe thunderstorm produced very large hail, damaging straight-line winds to around 65 mph and multiple tornadoes. Most of the damage occurred in Washington County where hail up to 4.5 inches in diameter was reported. The hail produced property and crop damage. In addition, six tornadoes touched down. One of the tornadoes snapped a few power lines near the Yuma County line.

A brief tornado was also observed. The large hail and intense winds caused widespread property and crop damage. Downed trees and power lines caused extensive power outages. An assisted living facility in Julesburg was damaged. Along Interstate 76, the strong winds knocked a semi-trailer on its side.

Severe thunderstorms produced extensive property and crop damage over portions of Logan County in and near Sterling; Sedgwick County, in and around Julesburg; and northern Washington Counties. The severe thunderstorm near Sterling, produced a wind gust to 92 mph, golf ball sized hail and very heavy rain. The brunt of the storm passed just west of Sterling. Initial damage assessments estimated over 100 homes sustained moderate to heavy damage from the hail, mainly to roofs, windows and siding. Substantial damage from golf ball sized hail was reported to residences just west of Sterling as well as Sterling High School. There was extensive tree damage, with large broken branches on the ground. Trees in Pioneer Park were downed, including one with a 14-inch diameter trunk that was snapped by the straight-line winds. Tree branches downed a few power lines around Sterling, causing localized power outages. At the Sage Point Subdivision, approximately 150 residential windows were broken. There was also widespread vehicle damage. An RV sales lot had trailers blown over into other trailers causing moderate damage. Heavy rain also caused minor street and lowland flooding.

Very strong winds preceding a cold front swept across the Front Range Foothills, Urban Corridor and Northeast Plains. Peak wind gusts ranged from 60 to 85 mph. Numerous accidents were reported along Interstate 70 between Cedar Point and Limon. The strong crosswinds blew six semi-trucks and an RV on their sides; causing minor injuries and the temporary closure of the interstate. ||Numerous power poles were snapped across parts of Lincoln and Weld Counties resulting in several road closures. In Arriba, a roof was blown off a building. In Agate, a wood, metal and brick structure collapsed with minor damage to the adjacent post office. In Aurora, roof damage was reported at Rangeview High School. Strong winds downed trees and power lines in Conifer and Denver causing several brief outages. Downed power lines caused several cars to catch fire in the vicinity of 1590 Cook St in Denver. Finally, a severe thunderstorm produced large hail, up to quarter size, near Sterling Reservoir. ||Peak wind reports included: 85 mph at I-70 and Cedar Point; 82 mph at Highlands Ranch; 73 mph at Red Feather Lakes; 70 mph, 4 miles southeast of Holyoke, 3 miles west-northwest of Pleasant Valley and 5 miles south of Sedgwick; 68 mph at Akron and near Amherst; 67 mph near Fort Morgan, 4 miles east of Franktown and Longmont; 65 mph, 3 miles west of Boulder; 64 mph at Centennial, Denver International Airport, Kiowa and Sterling; 63 mph at Bennett, Limon and 5 miles south-southeast of Sedalia; 62 mph at Crook and 3 miles northeast of Parker; 61 mph at Keenseburg and Proctor; 60 mph in Arvada; 59 mph, 12 miles south-southeast of Aurora and Hugo; with 58 mph at Briggsdale, Franktown and New Raymer.

Strong thunderstorm winds, producing gusts from 60 mph to 80 mph, caused tree damage near Akron and Peetz. The fairgrounds near Akron was also hit hard. Several awnings were bent or blown down and a tent collapsed. There were numerous reports of broken car windows and dents from fallen and blowing debris. The strong winds also downed power lines. West of Akron, three cows and two calves were electrocuted by the downed lines.

A severe thunderstorm produced large hail, up to the size of golfballs, and very heavy rain. The storm caused localized power outages. The heavy rain also caused flash flooding south of Fleming. The floodwaters inundated corn crops and washed out several county roads. Trained spotters measured up to 4 inches of rainfall.

Severe thunderstorm brought large hail and damaging winds to the Northeast Plains of Colorado. Large hail up to one inch in diameter was observed in Washington County. Strong thunderstorm winds to around 75 mph also caused damage. In Logan County, trees and power lines were downed. In Morgan County, one person was injured when a carport collapsed. In Phillips County, an irrigation sprinkler was overturned, and a 3-ton grain feeder was moved from the pasture to a nearby barn.

A large and destructive tornado accompanied with hail, up to softball size, ripped through eastern Logan County. An 88-year old farmer and his wife received minor injuries when the tornado flattened their home. The elderly man spared from serious injury when the recliner he was sitting in flipped upside down; just before a wall caved in on top of him. The farmer suffered a cracked vertebra and a lacerated hand. In all, five farmsteads were either damaged or destroyed. Several structures were destroyed, including three homes and numerous outbuildings. One modular home was lifted up and dropped 50 feet away from its foundation. Numerous pieces of farm equipment including, machinery, stock trailers and vehicles were damaged or destroyed. Three square miles of corn crops and several trees were destroyed. Some livestock were also killed. The tornado snapped power poles and downed electrical lines between Holyoke and Fleming. Initial damage estimates to two properties alone were around $750,000.
