An isolated tornado began just east of Morrison IL around 2:56 PM CST. The tornado damaged a power pole and a tree at this location. The tornado then caused sporadic damage until it approached Fulfs Road. It strengthened at this location and caused damage to trees, farm outbuildings, and a power pole. The tornado ended shortly after this location. Wind speeds are estimated in the 105-110 MPH range, with a rating of EF1. At it's widest, the tornado was 300 yards and was likely a multi-vortex tornado. The tornado path length was nearly 6 miles.
This tornado began just south of Illinois highway 92 in northwest Bureau County, then moved into far southeast Whiteside county, near the intersection of Osage Road and 1050 St E. The tornado tracked for 2 miles in Whiteside County, before moving into Lee County, about a half mile south of the Green River. This tornado would continue for 6 additional miles into southwest Lee County (see NWS Chicago StormData). The damage from this tornado included numerous heavily damaged outbuildings, several snapped power poles, and dozens of trees. The worst damage was to a large farmstead outbuilding on the Whiteside and Bureau County border area, with the roof and two of the four walls destroyed and debris slung well into a field. Peak winds with this tornado were estimated at 110 mph. The tornado was rated EF1 in Bureau and Whiteside Counties.
Reportof some damage to an outbuilding, some crop damage, leaning power poles and some damage to a trailer. The report was taken by a reporter from a newspaper.
Several reports of tree damage and power pole damage received from the Sterling Rock Falls area. There are numerous power outages on the north side of the city of Sterling.
Episodes
A cold front moving into eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois managed to develop isolated severe thunderstorms during the late afternoon and early evening of July 7, 2012. The airmass ahead of the front was very unstable but the shear was weak. The thunderstorms produced 60 mph winds at Bleidorn, Iowa in Clinton county. Another isolated severe thunderstorm near Sterling, Illinois in Whiteside county produced 60 mph winds. The public reported several large diameter tree limbs down along with power outages.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms developed over eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois during the afternoon hours of August 13, 2011 as a powerful storm system rotated through the upper Midwest and Mid Mississippi Valley. The main threat from these thunderstorms as they moved through northwest Illinois was small hail.
Tornado developed out of a non-supercell thunderstorm or heavy rain shower and touched down on the south side of Fulton, Illinois, south-southeast of the intersection of 24th Avenue and 4th Street. The tornado moved Northeast through the Sikkema Trailer Park and crossed 5th and 6th streets before dissipating in a corn field. Widespread tree limb damage was noted during the survey with corn stalks tossed into power lines. Adjacent corn field was heavily damaged. Numerous public reports of a funnel were received by the Whiteside County Sheriff Office with no lightning observed. Path length 0.2 miles and was rated high F0.
