The squall line of severe thunderstorms tore down numerous trees and wires across Berks County. Muhlenberg Township, north of Reading was hardest hit. Dozens of trees were toppled in Riverview Park. The entire length of River Road was closed. The North 5th Street Highway was closed for more than three hours because of a toppled utility pole. A few other roads were closed late into the day. A house on George Street lost a piece of its roof. A building on Leiszs Bridge Road was damaged by a downed tree. Throughout the county, about 2,500 homes and businesses lost power.
