December 15, 2021 - High Wind

Two rounds of high winds occurred across Greeley County over a period of four hours. Mesonet stations across the county recorded wind gusts of 59-70 mph, with the strongest recorded gust located near Selkirk, Kansas. Several outbuildings were destroyed while numerous powerlines and trees were reported down across the county. In the southeast corner of the county, near Selkirk, one home had it's roof blown off. West of the city of Tribune, the top of a metal elevator bin was blown off, also damaging the stairwell for the bin. North of Tribune, a shed and a shop were knocked down due to the high winds. Given the degree of damage observed across the county, the wind gusts were estimated to be up to 110 mph.

West to northwesterly winds up to 6 mph combined with cold temperatures as cold as 10 below produced wind chills as low as 22 degrees below zero across Greeley County. The coldest wind chills were observed near Tribune, Kansas. Impacts: power outages.

April 30, 2017 - Blizzard

Visibility of a block was reported in Horace. All highways were closed across the county due to poor driving conditions. KDOT is waiting to clear the roads until conditions improve, and has contacted the National Guard to help. Motorists were rescued from seven vehicles stranded near Tribune. Most of the county is without power. Snowfall amounts close to 30 inches were reported. A federal disaster was declared by President Donald J. Trump.
