Recent Weather Related Causes of Power Outages in Rains County

Extreme Cold/Wind Chill. Extreme cold gripped the county for several days. Overnight lows were below 20 degrees Fahrenheit for most of the week. The period of February 15-16th was the coldest with low temperatures in the single digits and even slightly below zero degrees Fahrenheit. The maximum temperature on the 15th was only in the lower teens. Wind chill values during the 14th-16th were between 10 to -10 degrees Fahrenheit most of the time. The cold temperatures resulted in an extreme amount of damage to pipes, infrastructure, and power.

February 15, 2021

Thunderstorm Wind. Trees and power lines were blown down across the county. Storage buildings were thrown across the road near Alba, and portable buildings were tossed around along Highway 69 in Emory.

August 29, 2007

Ice Storm. Several areas were without power for portions of Sunday and Monday as power lines were weighted down by ice. Trees laden with ice also caused outages as they fell on power lines. Additonally, trees fell across CR 4460, CR 4520, and CR 4480.

January 14, 2007

Thunderstorm Wind. A small metal building was blown over at a fire station about 9 miles southeast of Emory, and trees and power lines were blown down across the southern portion of the county.
