A hot and dry atmosphere was in place, but there was enough moisture for isolated thunderstorms to develop over El Paso. With daytime high temperatures close to 105 degrees, strong downburst winds were able to develop with these storms. The El Paso airport recorded a peak wind of 56 mph with power lines and trees down on east side of the city.
