Extreme Cold/Wind Chill. Extreme cold gripped the county for several days. Overnight lows were near or below 25 degrees Fahrenheit almost all week. The period of February 15-16th was the coldest with low temperatures between 5 and -4 degrees Fahrenheit. The maximum temperature on the 15th was only in the teens. Wind chill values during the 14th-16th were between 10 to -10 degrees Fahrenheit most of the time. The cold temperatures resulted in an extreme amount of damage to pipes, infrastructure, and power. The State listed 1 fatality in Freestone County due to the winter storm but no additional information could be obtained.

Tornado. A cone-shaped tornado was observed and videoed by storm chasers|and storm spotters to the west of Interstate 45 north of Buffalo|and Donie in Freestone County. The tornado became rain wrapped and|difficult to see, but is not believed to have crossed Interstate|45. The tornado occurred over a mostly rural area with limited |road access, but some tree damage was observed near the end of the|tornado track. Power flashes were also observed in a spotter |video.

Strong Wind. Three to four foot trees are down in Fairfield and a gas station sustained minor damage. Power lines were also down around the county. The damage was caused by strong east winds behind a departing MCS.

Tropical Storm. Several large trees were felled in the Fairfield area due to T.S. Ike. A tin carport was also dropped onto a pickup truck. Trees and large limbs fell onto power lines causing power outages. Winds were estimated between 35 and 45 MPH with higher gusts.
