Power Outage in Amherst, VA

High Wind. Wind gusts downed trees down throughout the county with a number of power lines also downed. An estimated 2,000 customers were without power. Damage values are estimated.

Thunderstorm Wind. Around 60 trees were downed by thunderstorm winds throughout the county, with one falling onto a home on Virginia Highway 130. Thousands of people lost power in the area due to the damage.

Winter Storm. Snowfall reports from trained spotters and the public ranged from 3 to 6 inches across the county, with highest reports coming from Naola, Elon, and Glasgow. Sparse power outages occurred. A train was halted on the tracks near Lynchburg for close to 40 hours due to trees blocking the tracks. Assistance to remove the obstacle was limited due to snow. Key Impacts: Snow covered roads, power outages, traffic delays, railway blockage.
