Ville Platte Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Wind gusts to around 75 mph and heavy rainfall lead to numerous downed trees and power lines across the parish. Flooding in numerous locations was reported from 5 to 15 inches of rainfall. Major flooding occurred along Bayous Cocodrie, Nezpique, and Des Cannes with water entering some homes.
There was a voluntary evacuation from the parish. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down across the parish. Homes and businesses were damaged by fallen trees or wind. Over 60 percent of the parish was without power immediately after the storm. Wind gusts ranged from 60 to 90 mph.
Occasional tropical storm force wind gusts caused isolated power outages and downed a scattered trees in the parish.
A tornado touched down on the southern end of Ville Platte south of West Hickory St. The tornado then crossed Main St and W LaSalle Street snapping numerous trees and power poles. The tornado then paralleled Tate cove road continuing to snap trees before dissipating near the intersection of Tate Cove and Theophile Road. Max wind speed was estimated at 90 mph.

The tornado in St. Landry Parish moved into Evangeline Parish, and picked up a mobile home over 100 yards, before it landed and completely fell apart. Two ladies in the home were killed instantly. Three other people in the home survived with broken bones and bruises. Debris was scattered over a quarter of a mile away from the mobile home. Several other mobile homes were damaged in this area, and many trees and power lines were blown down.
Several trees and power lines were blown down. The covering of a service station fell on a couple of cars. One person was trapped inside and taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Cleco to begin periodic power outages to some customers
Cleco says they have been instructed to reduce demand on the power grid by beginning power outages to customers in Eunice, Opelousas, Ville Platte, Mamou, Oakdale and Washington.
