One tree was snapped off about 30 feet up by severe thunderstorm winds. The tree landed on power lines, subsequently downing them and partially blocking Virginia Avenue in Vinton.

Thunderstorm winds blew down a large tree limb on to a power line near Route 694, snapped four trees near the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Thompson Memorial Drive, blew down multiple trees on to cars along Surrey Avenue, and blew down one tree on Whittaker Avenue. The trees also knocked down power lines that caused about 3,200 people in Roanoke County and the city of Roanoke to lose power.

Thousands still without power as outages stretch into second day | WCHS

Thousands are still without power Wednesday as outages in West Virginia and Ohio stretch into a second day amid a heat wave. In West Virginia, more than 21,000 Appalachian Power customers are still without service as of 1:20 p. m. Wednesday. More than 4,300 customer outages are reported in Kanawha County, followed by 1,300 in Lincoln, about 1,100 in Cabell, about 1,100 in Putnam and more than 900 in Mason.
