Weslaco Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
At least five homes were struck by lightning and burned in spots in the McAllen Metro and Weslaco areas, some with considerable damage. Numerous lightning strikes were reported throughout Hidalgo County, resulting in utility pole and tree fires, and more than 30,000 residents without power at the peak of the storms.
Microburst winds of 70 to 80 mph caused a large swath of damage across the Weslaco area. A newly constructed metal building had awning lifted, which helped tear off the front wall, the garage door was also blown in. Numerous softwood trees were blown down, some of which landed on homes, there were also numerous broken tree branches, power poles and lines were down as well. The winds rolled a poorly constructed and poorly anchored mobile home. Shingles were removed from the southwest side of one home and a wooden fence was blown down. One highway sign was reported to have been blown out of the ground along Highway 83. A metal pergola was destroyed on the southwest side of Weslaco.
The Hidalgo County Emergency Manager reported strong winds occurred during a thunderstorm which knocked down some power lines in Weslaco. A funnel cloud was reported by the emergency manager approximately two miles west of Weslaco as the thunderstorm moved through the area. Peak winds of 43 mph were reported at the Mid Valley Airport, 2 miles east of Weslaco, estimated at around 812 AM CST.

Ranchero Village located in Weslaco, a 55+ community has been without electricity since 11:43 PM, Sunday night. Look at AEP map of outages, it’s not even listed. AEP tweeted it doesn’t look like we will get some power until some time Wednesday.
