Power Outage in Gillette, WY

Tornado. A tornado developed near the Campbell-Converse County line southeast of Wright, where it snapped wooden power poles and tipped over several empty train cars. It struck the operations area of the North Antelope Rochelle Coal Mine, ripping metal roofs and wall panels from shop buildings; moving and flipping cars, buses, and shipping containers; and overturning empty railroad cars. Damage severity indicated wind gusts were as high as 120 to 130 mph. No track was visible across the vegetation. Seven people sustained mostly minor injuries at the mine. The tornado continued into southwestern Weston County.

Thunderstorm Wind. A power pole was snapped off, numerous houses lost siding, and a roof was blown off a home.

Thunderstorm Wind. Numerous sheds were destroyed, along with other minor property damage. Tree branches to six inches in diameter were broken. Three fires were started from downed power lines.

A long duration derecho tracked northeast across Wyoming, producing wind gusts as high as 80 mph across much of northeastern Wyoming. Trees and power poles were downed by the wind, with minor property damage as well.

A long-lived supercell thunderstorm developed and tracked southeast through central portions of Campbell County and Weston County. The storm went through much of Gillette, with hail and strong wind gusts causing damage and downing trees and power lines.
