Recent Weather Related Causes of Power Outages in Sweetwater County

A moist southerly flow combined with an upper-level disturbance approaching from the west to trigger thunderstorms that moved northeast from Utah and became severe in southern Wyoming. Quarter-sized hail was reported from Green River to Rock Springs in Sweetwater County. Up to 400 customers were without power at the peak of the storm. Another severe thunderstorm moved into Lincoln County and dropped hail up to the size of ping pong balls in and around Kemmerer.

June 12, 2016

Thunderstorm Wind. A light residential trailer was blown over and knocked into a car on the north side of Rock Springs. The strong wind also dropped large tree limbs and caused damage to a power pole in downtown Rock Springs.

July 15, 2015

Thunderstorm Wind. Several power poles were reported down west-northwest of Green River toward State Highway 372. The wind gusts were associated with weak convection and not a thunderstorm.

Thunderstorm Wind. Power lines were downed and at least one home under construction was damaged in Wamsutter by strong thunderstorm wind.

Dust Devil. A dust devil tore down parts of two fences in a residential area in Jamestown near Green River. Tin roofing from a barn was wrapped around a power pole as a result of the dust devil.
