Power Outage 70454 Comments and Reports

Danielle Legrande
It is horrible. I have small children and our house it at 84 degrees already. Entergy is on the news talking about they have crews waiting to help but yet no one is in Ponchatoula. We are now being told Entergy does not know when power when be back on. There was no rain no wind last night. So why is the power off?

Woke up to a VERY quiet house and very quiet weather. Why no power? I pay my bill on time. Come on folks, I'd sure like some tv with my breakfast this mornin'.

With all the power outages and surges that we have been having lately, my appliance and tv’s are being affected. I wish Entergy could get the problem fixed. I can’t afford to buy new ones.

I don't understand why we lose power so much in this area. The last few times it went out we weren't even having bad weather. It is not even raining.

What is Power Outage?

Power outage (also called a power cut, a power blackout, power failure or a blackout) is a short-term or a long-term loss of the electric power to a particular area.

What Causes Power Outages?

  • Severe weather (high winds, lightning, winter storms, heat waves, rain or flooding can cause damage to power lines or equipment);
  • Other damage to electric transmission lines (vehicle accidents, trees, and animals can cause damage to power lines or equipment);
  • Repairing, maintenance or upgrades on power lines and equipment.

Outage Safety Tips

  • Stay away from the downed power lines, park vehicles in protected areas.
  • Unplug appliances and electronics, limit cell phone use to conserve battery life.
  • Use portable generators outdoors only, well away from open windows and doors.
  • Pack perishable foods into a cooler, keep refrigerator and freezer doors shut as much as possible.
