Power Outage in Arnold, MO

Thunderstorm winds caused widespread damage across northern Jefferson County. In High Ridge, five large trees were blown down. In Arnold, numerous trees were blown down as well as tree limbs and power lines. Also, a semi was blown over in the Walmart parking lot in Arnold and a nearby fireworks tent was torn apart with merchandise blown all over the area. Several business signs were destroyed as well.

In Arnold, a large maple tree was blown over onto a house. The house suffered damage to the awning and gutters before rolling off the slanted roof. Just southwest of Festus a tree was blown down onto Route CC. Several unoccupied vehicles sustained damage from fallen trees and tree limbs.

Some of the debris blocked U.S. Highway 61 so it had to be shut down til later that day so the debris could be cleared off. One home sustained major damage from a fallen tree and tree limbs. Numerous homes in the area sustained minor roof and window damage. Some of the trees that were broken off at the ground were 5 feet in diameter. An unoccupied travel trailer was rolled over twice causing major damage. No injuries were reported.

Amateur radio spotters reported golfball size hail east of Festus. Thunderstorm wind gusts downed trees and power lines in the Pevely, Crystal City and Herculaneum areas.

The County Sheriff reported numerous trees and power lines down in Cedar Hill and High Ridge.

Thunderstorm wind gusts caused scattered damage across the north half of Jefferson County. One home suffered roof damage in High Ridge. Numerous trees were down in the Cedar Hill area and trees were also down on Highway 21 in Hillsboro. Numerous trees were also reported down in the Festus area. A lightning strike knocked out power to the Jefferson County Emergency Dispatch Center in Hillsboro. The power was out for about 10 minutes until authorities activated a backup system.

An isolated pulse thunderstorm caused wind damage in the De Soto area. Some trees and power lines were blown down resulting in about 3200 people losing electric power. A tree fell through the roof of a 2 story house causing about $10,000 in damage. A man was hit by lighting near De Soto and luckily received only minor injuries.
