A cold front swept across Central New York after midnight on the 12th. This front helped push out the rain showers from remnants of Tropical System Nicole. However, a line of storms and gusty winds were observed along the front edge of this front. A few reports of downed trees and power lines occurred in Broome and Chenango Counties.
A line of storms developed along a cold front that swept through Central New York. While winds were gusty, most gusts were below severe criteria. Some stronger gusts were observed in Broome County where power lines and a transformer were damaged.
A late-season winter storm impacted Central New York in mid-April. Snow-to-liquid ratios were low resulting in heavy snowfall. Snowfall totals exceeded a foot in some locations. The heavy snow brought down trees and powerlines resulting in widespread power outages. The entries approximate the number of customers without power using pweroutage.us with data being valid in the morning of the 19th. At one point, over 100,000 customers in the state of New York were without power. The full extent of damage from the storm is unknown but damage values were estimated on the approximate number of customers without power in each county.
A cold front passed through Central New York during the afternoon and evening hours, triggering thunderstorms. Many of these storms became severe with winds being the main threat. Numerous trees and power lines were knocked down by these storms. There was also minor damage to personal property.
A strong low pressure system moved from the Ohio Valley to the East Coast and reformed as a powerful nor'easter while moving into New England. This provided the region with several hours of moderate to heavy rainfall. In addition to significant flash flooding around the area, widespread minor to moderate river flooding occurred on many of the larger, main stem rivers and their tributaries.
