Power Outage in Cresco, IA

Power outages occurred in Cresco from downed power lines. The power outages were not repaired until the afternoon of December 16th.

Trees were uprooted, power poles snapped and a metal barn roof was partially blown off west of Davis Corners.

Trees and power lines were blown down just north of Lime Springs. The doors to metal machine shed were blown onto the roof of the shed.

After a tornado dissipated just outside of Lime Springs, the remaining winds from the storm blew down several trees and powerlines and cause some roof damage to homes in town. Around 900 residents were without power after the storm.

Northwest winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph produced a period of blizzard conditions across Howard County. Whiteout conditions occurred during the blizzard and the blowing snow caused severe drifting to occur that closed several roads. Power outages occurred as the heavy, wet snow and the high winds combined to bring down power lines and tree branches. Most of the schools in the county were either closed or delayed the start of classes on both the 20th and 21st. The highest reported snowfall amount was 6.5 inches near Chester.

North winds between 25 and 35 mph with higher gusts, created a period of blizzard conditions across Howard County during the morning and afternoon of the 20th. As a result of the blizzard, roads were closed, vehicles became trapped in the snow, some power outages occurred and all schools in the county were closed.

A building roof and several grain bins were damaged, a shed destroyed and 70 power poles blown down along Jade Avenue five miles west of Lime Springs.

This tornado first caused some damage about 3 miles north of State Highway 9 north of Riceville. The tornado almost immediately strengthen to EF1 as it moved northeast. Several farms had outbuildings destroyed, widespread tree damage occurred and several homes had partial or complete roof damage. As the tornado passed south of Chester, it increased to its maximum width and strength. The tornado remained at EF2 strength as it crossed the state line into Fillmore County Minnesota. The tornado passed through rural portions of the county affecting around a dozen farms with only three minor injuries occurring. Around 850 customers were loss power as a result of the storms. Damages were estimated to be around $500 thousand.

Law enforcement reported widespread trees and power lines knocked down 5 miles west northwest of Davis Corners.

Power lines were blown down. Media reports indicate a large tree was blown down onto a house but the house did not sustain any structural damage. Other large tree limbs were also blown down.

Trees were down all of over town and there were power outages. A woman was reportedly injured when a tree may have fallen on her in a park. Heavy rain and street flooding was also reported.

Outflow from thunderstorms produced damaging winds in parts of northeast Iowa in the late evening hours of July 14th. The strong winds knocked down several trees and power lines near the city of Davis Corners in Howard County.
