Power Outage in Dickson, TN

Severe thunderstorm winds resulted in significant damage in Dickson. A large billboard sign was blown over along with several trees and power lines. Structure and property damage was also reported at Dickson County Equipment along Tennessee State Route 46. Damages are a rough estimate.

An AWOS station at Dickson Municipal Airport measured a peak non-thunderstorm wind gust of 58 mph. Several hours of severe winds led to numerous damage reports across all of Dickson County, including downed and uprooted trees and downed powerlines. Damages are estimated.

A tree also fell onto a house on North Mt Sinai Road south of Dickson, and a large tree branch fell onto and damaged a car on Tidwell Switch Road southeast of Dickson. A trampoline was blown into the air and struck a car on Yellow Creek Road, causing severe damage to the vehicle.

A CoCoRaHS observer 2.8 miles SE of Vanleer measured 4.2 of combined ice, sleet, and snow, while a trained spotter in Dickson measured 0.75 of ice. Numerous trees and power lines were knocked down across the county, and many roads and schools were closed.

A newspaper reported on Wednesday night, January 26th, that a transformer outage left more than 150 residents without power in White Bluff, and on Wednesday, January 26th also, at 6:30 am, a tree fell on a limb at a substation in Charlotte, leaving more than 800 residents along Highway 48 without power for more than an hour. Over 95 wrecks were reported countywide. Total damage cost associated with these wrecks and any injuries associated with any wrecks were unknown. This total snowfall accumulation resulted in public and some private primary, secondary, and higher education school closures across the county on Wednesday, January 26th also, along with closures or postponement of other civic engagements across the county for the remainder of that day, as travel across roads throughout the county became hazardous due to the accumulating snowfall.

Newspaper also reported that additional thunderstorm related wind damage was located in the north of the county and the southeast, including Cumberland Furnance, Vanleer, and White Bluff. Several early morning storms resulted in power outages across the Fairview Community. Many of those outages resulted from falling trees damaging individual residential electrical service lines.
