A narrow swath of very high winds knocked down trees, power lines, uplifted roofing at multiple residences, and destroyed a well constructed outbuilding/detached garage.

A bow echo from an embedded supercell within a line of thunderstorms intensified and produced a long-lived and at times wide swath of wind damage as it entered the Shoals, including Florence and Killen, to the east central part of Lauderdale County north of Elgin. Widespread wind damage occurred in south, southeast and eastern Florence to Killen, becoming more sporadic further east. Wind speeds of 60-65 mph occurred in much of this area, with a few gusts of 80-90 mph in a few locations. One of the hardest hit locations was between Killen and Florence where the entire roof was taken off of antique mall, a sign was blown out at a church, and roofing was taken off of a fire station. Trees, power poles and power lines were taken down in numerous locations, stormwater and gas lines were damaged, and debris and utility restoration costs were extensive. Schools buses were damaged, parks were damaged with extensive cleanup. A significant number of residences experienced damage due to falling trees. Damage, cleanup and repair costs are in the millions of dollars.

Sustained wind speeds of 30-40 mph gusted frequently from 45-60 mph at times, peaking at 63 mph at the Northwest Alabama Regional Airport in nearby Muscle Shoals. One individual was killed while picking up debris in their yard after the line of thunderstorms. Numerous trees and power poles and lines were knocked down.

A narrow swath of winds between 64 and 93 mph affect locations just southwest of the intersection of CR 106 and Highway 20 (east of the Natchez Trace Parkway) and moved northeast before weakening near the Cloverdale community. Some of the most severe damage occurred near the beginning of the its path, where the roof of Cornerstone Church of Christ received significant damage, two power poles were snapped near its base, and trees were uprooted. Several very large trees were uprooted along CR 81 as it moved further northeast. Significant roof damage occurred along CR 200 just southwest of the intersection of Lindsey Drive to a commercial structure. Additional uprooted trees and roof/awning damage occurred to homes near Lindsey Drive and Lynne Drive. A huge 3 to 4 foot in diameter pine tree was snapped at its base near Lynn Drive. These intense winds continued to move northeast, crossing CR 154 and uprooting several large softwood trees just west of the intersection of CR 291. As the severe storm continued northeast, winds collapsed the door of a small barn and broke off large branches from trees as it crossed CR 8. The swath of damage continue to near the intersection of Cloverdale road and Cooper Drive, where several more trees were uprooted.

A tornado formed west of County Road 51 north of Mount Bethel Road and snapped a few small tree limbs. It then progressed north-northeast along County Road 51, uprooting progressively larger trees and causing one tree to fall on an abandoned building. A metal awning was lofted approximately 50 yards downstream of the tornado. The tornado then crossed County Road 51 near County Road 543. A house sustained minor shingle damage and a detached garage had a failure point at a southward-facing garage door, which then allowed the tornado to lift portions of the metal roof. The tornado then tracked northward and caused roof damage to outbuildings of the Whitehead Baptist Church and then moved north-northeast, uprooting trees and snapping small limbs along the track. A tree fell on another home, and powerlines had fallen along the track. The tornado lifted on County Road 89 after snapping a few small tree limbs. Debris fallout continued for another 100 yards or so downstream of the tornado end point.

Sustained gradient winds of 20 to 30 mph gusting to between 45 and 50 mph occurred across the county. A gust to 48 mph was measured at the Muscle Shoals ASOS. These winds led to downed trees, some fell on powerlines and produced power outages.

Ida eventually tracked across far northwest Alabama during the morning of the 31st. The gusty winds and heavy rains contributed to numerous trees and power lines being knocked down at least fifteen different locations in Lauderdale County. The trees blocked roads in a few locations. A knocked down tree fell on a house causing a gas leak in Florence. A transformer and power pole and lines were knocked down in Waterloo.

This resulted in flooded homes near the river as the night progressed. This flooding continued and became worse through the early morning hours on Monday. The creek crested at a record 23.12 feet, before gradually receding. ||Locations at and near the Bluff View Shores and Hidden Valley community were particularly hard hit from flood waters from Shoal Creek. The force of the flowing water broke several docks with numerous boats still attached to their slips free from there cables at the Emerald Beach Marina in Killen. They were taken downstream in the powerful currents to the old twin bridges on Highway 72, just north of the entrance to the Tennessee River. The docks making up the marina (total of 16 - 5K each) were unusable after cleanup and one boat along with it's contents valued at about 42,000 dollars was destroyed. Emergency response costs to remove the docks, boats, and other debris from the bridge was estimated at 31,000 dollars. In Addition, costs of contractors to assist emergency response crews totaled 434,500 dollars.||In addition, the powerful flood current broke a work barge from it's moorings and sent it downstream. It struck Happy Hollow bridge on CR 47 sometime after midnight on Monday. The barge scraped the bottom of the bridge as it passed underneath and later came to rest further downstream upon the old twin bridges on Highway 72 as well. In total, at least seven utility lines were blown down.

Thunderstorms moving through Florence produced frequent to continuous cloud to ground lightning. This lightning struck several trees and power lines in the area and a few were knocked down. One woman was struck by lightning around 7:33 pm CDT but the extent of her injuries was unknown.

Numerous large oak trees were blown down in the Bluff View Shores area. A Wendy's restaurant in Florence lost its roof. A business in Rogersville had its front down blown in. Several large limbs and power lines were knocked down near Sweetwater.

The outer bands of T.D. Ida produced stronger thunderstorms at times during the evening hours of the 30th. Winds associated with the depression knocked down numerous trees and a few power lines in far northwest Alabama. A couple of trees were also knocked down in north central and northeast Alabama. Rainfall amounts of 3-4 inches were reported in northwest Alabama, and in a couple of isolated locations in north central and northeast Alabama. Most other areas received 1-3 inches.

Thunderstorms erupted during the mid to late afternoon hours across north Alabama., with clusters of thunderstorms redeveloping into the early evening hours. Many of the thunderstorms produced gusty winds of 25 to 35 mph. However, one thunderstorm produced considerable wind damage between Lexington and Green Hill in Lauderdale County, where several trees and power lines were knocked down, and roofs and outbuildings were damaged. Other trees were knocked down in northeast Alabama.

Several clusters and bands of strong to severe thunderstorms developed during the afternoon hours of the 27th. These were part of very far outer effects of Tropical Storm Laura tracking into central Arkansas which had weakened from Hurricane status. One of the bands moved rapidly north through northwest Alabama and the Shoals, with a small bow echo noted on radar. There were a few reports of trees and power lines down and roof damage.

A complex of thunderstorms dropped southeast through most of northwest into north central Alabama during the morning into the early afternoon hours. The thunderstorms produced strong and gusty winds that knocked down a few trees and power lines, and produced roof damage on a barn. Rainfall of 1-3.5 inches fell in a short period of time in parts of northwest Alabama, including the Shoals, producing a few reports of flooding.

A complex of strong to severe thunderstorms dropped south-southeast from middle and western middle Tennessee into northwest Alabama during the late evening of June 30th, and lasting into the early morning hours of July 1st. Several reports of trees and power lines being knocked down were received, especially in Lauderdale and Colbert Counties.

A solid line of mostly low-topped showers with a few embedded thunderstorms pushed east from Mississippi and western Tennessee across north Alabama and southern middle Tennessee during the late afternoon through mid evening hours. A tornado developed along the line in Lauderdale County near Green Hill, producing a measured wind gust of 76 mph on an Amateur Radio weather station, also knocked down the two 40 foot radio towers the equipment was attached to. The tornado tracked east-northeast crossing into Lawrence County in Tennessee, knocking down trees, power lines, and damaging a few homes. In addition, the line of showers produced wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph, with a few pockets of 60 mph winds or higher. Due to saturated soils, even sub-severe winds were able to knock down larger limbs and a few trees. Power lines were also knocked down in some areas.

Rain changed to snow in northwest Alabama during the evening hours of the 6th as a powerful upper level trough sweeped northeast through the region. The snow tapered off shortly after Midnight on the 7th. Snow accumulations of 0.5 to 1.5 inches were reported in far northwest Alabama.

As the remnants of Tropical Storm Olga lifted northward through Mississippi into western Tennessee, strong and gusty winds developed across northwest Alabama during the late morning into the early afternoon. The winds lasted about 2-3 hours with sustained winds of 30-40 mph with gusts of 45-50 mph. The winds knocked down numerous trees and power lines in northwest Alabama, including the Quad Cities area.

A long lived comlex of strong to severe thunderstorms pushed east from the lower Mississippi Valley and across northwest Alabama during the mid to late morning hours. Several reports of trees and power lines being knocked down were reported. ||Thunderstorms redeveloped during the mid afternoon hours producing large hail and isolated wind damage in northwest Alabama.||Then a third cluster of isolated strong to severe thunderstorms developed during the mid evening hours knocking down a few trees.

A fast-moving line of showers and thunderstorms pushed through north Alabama from west to east during the early morning hours of the 23rd. Damaging winds snapped a power pole. There were also reports of trees knocked down.

As a strong upper level trough moved through the region on the evening of Jan. 2, a wake low formed at the rear of an associated area of showers. Gusty winds of approx. 35 to 45 mph resulted during the mid evening hours in north Alabama. The winds knocked down trees and power lines in at least three counties.

A line of thunderstorms pushed north-northeast during the early evening hours. The storms knocked down trees and power lines. One tree was knocked down onto a car injuring a child.

Windy conditions developed ahead of a cold front that pushed through the Tennessee Valley during the evening of 13th into the early morning hours of the 14th. Southeast to south winds increased to 20 to 30 mph, with gusts over 40 mph reported. A few gusts to 45 mph were observed. A few trees were knocked down in northwest Alabama and a couple of power outages were reported via social media.

Clusters of strong thunderstorms developed over much of west central Alabama during the late afternoon hours. The storms moved northward across northwest Alabama producing a period of gusty winds, heavy downpours and frequent lightning. The winds downed trees and power lines in Lauderdale and Colbert Counties.

A squall line pushed southeast along a strong cold front during the early morning hours of the 21st. An isolated storm produced quarter sized hail in Lauderdale County. Another storm knocked trees and power lines down in east Florence.

A weak boundary interacted with a moderately unstable air mass to produce strong to severe pulse thunderstorms across Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin counties in northwestern Alabama. The stronger storms produced several instances of downed trees and powerlines.

Two waves of strong winds damaged trees across northwest Alabama. Saturated soils enabled trees to be uprooted rather easily by sub-severe winds in the 40 to 50 mph range. The first wave of wind around 6:30 AM uprooted a tree in the Athens area, toppling a powerline and knocking out power to 5000 utility customers in the area. The second and more widespread wave of strong winds was produced by a suspected gravity wave during the late morning hours, resulting in several reports of tree and power line damage in Colbert and Lauderdale Counties.

What appeared to be a gravity wave event produced sporadic wind gusts estimated at 35 to 45 mph. A few trees were blown down, a few power poles were blown down, and one tree landed on a carport in Marion County. A few trees were knocked down across Lauderdale, Winston, and Colbert counties.
