Modest sleet accumulations of up to 0.1 inches were also observed in spots across the county. The icing resulted in around 13,011 power outages within the county. Extensive wind damage was reported throughout the city of Franklin. Approximately 40 homes were damaged in an area around Clay Street, High Street, and 4th Avenue. Wind damage was likely due to a downburst. Numerous power outages were also reported.

A combination of freezing rain, sleet and snow produced over 1,300 power outages in Franklin county due to downed power lines. Freezing rain resulted in trace amounts of ice, and sleet reached a depth of 0.3 inches. Snow reports ranged from trace amounts to 2 inches across the county.

Damaging wind gusts, estimated to be 40 mph to locally 60 mph, blew down at least a dozen trees across the county. These strong winds also caused scattered power outages across the county.

Strong winds brought many trees down across Franklin County. Near the community of Hardy, a tree was downed and blocked the roadway near the intersection of Setzer Way and Hardy Road. Another downed tree blocked the roadway near the intersection of Edwardsville Road and Fieldstone Lane. Near or in the community of Rocky Mount a tree blocked Iron Ridge Road in the 9300 block, near Grassy Hill Road. A fallen tree blocked one lane of Pell Avenue, and another tree blocked the entire roadway of Cliff Street. In addition, a tree blocked the Angle Plantation road in the 500 block. A power line was brought down by a fallen tree in the 2500 block of Rakes Road. Near or in the community of Ferrum, a tree blocked the roadway in the 600 block of Ferrum School Road. Additionally, another tree blocked the roadway in the 1000 block of Saint John's Loop. In the community of Henry, a tree was downed near the intersection of Henry Road and Providence Church Road. Damage values are estimated.

The Franklin County 911 Center reported that several trees and power lines were down around Hardy. Later, some trees were also blown down in the Ferrum area. Finally, at 11 am EST on the 22nd, another tree was blown down near Rocky Mount.

Trees blocked Henry road near the intersection with Providence Church Road in the Log Cabin Estates area. He estimated approximately 2 mile area of microburst damage. Power was knocked out to approximately 500-750 residences in area.

Moderate to heavy snow moved into the county during the early morning hours on the 5th. The snow turned to a mixture of rain, freezing rain, and sleet during the afternoon, before ending as snow late at night into the day on the 6th. Snowfall accumulations of 6 to 10 inches were reported, with the highest amounts in the northwest parts of the county. Roadways became slick, with many reports of vehicles sliding off roads across the state. Roofs collapsed on two storage buildings in Rocky Mount due to the weight of the snow, sleet, and rain. A van inside one of the buildings had its roof collapsed in as well.||At least 2000 people without power was also reported across the county.

Isolated severe thunderstorms that formed in a warm and unstable air mass, caused a few instances of tree damage and brought down power lines in Franklin County.

A dome of high pressure that had been centered over the southwestern U.S. around June 20-23 shifted to the north and east from June 23-27 bringing all-time record heat to the Great Plains and Midwest. From there the ridge shifted toward the east coast and brought record or near record heat to the Mid-Atlantic and southeastern U.S. from June 28-30. Literally hundreds of June and many all-time heat records were established during this period.||Numerous records or near records for all time June heat were established at climate observing sites in the local CWA. At Roanoke (ROA) with climate records dating back to 1912, the 104F recorded was the highest all-time June reading. This was the first 100F temperature in June at Roanoke since 1959. The 104F was also tied for the second highest all time, after the 105F recorded several times in the past and most recently in August, 1983. Lynchburg (LYH) reached 103F, which tied for its 4th highest on record (highest 106F in July, 1936) and 2nd highest June temperature (104F in June, 1934). Records at Lynchburg date back to 1893 are the longest in the CWA. Danville (DAN) also reached 104F on the 29th, the highest all-time June reading (previous record 102F in 1988) and 2nd highest of all time. The highest ever is 105F reached several times and most recently in July, 1990. In the mountains, Blacksburg hit 95F on both the 29th and 30th. both days all-time June records; the previous June record was 94F set in 1988. ||In terms of impact, the heat wave was exacerbated by the massive power outages that occurred in the wake of the June 29 derecho. Tens of thousands of customers lost power in the derecho and were without air-conditioning for periods ranging from several hours to a week or more. Numerous cooling centers were opened by local governments across the area.

High winds not associated with a thunderstorm knocked down trees and broke off tree limbs, damaged a house and lifted a carport in the air in Pittsylvania county. High winds occurred during the midday and afternoon hours on the 12th.High winds downed a tree in Snow Creek in Franklin County, blocking Route 890. High winds also downed trees, caused power outages, and blew a sign down that damaged a car in Danville in Pittsylvania county.

An isolated thunderstorm on the afternoon of the 13th downed numerous trees, power lines and power poles, and damaged numerous houses Near Smith Mountain Lake, 14 miles to 15 miles east of Rocky Mt.

Mixed snow and sleet developed during the evening of the 29th and accumulated 1 to 3 inches at night and during the morning of the 30th. The mixed precipitation became freezing rain during the midday and afternoon of the 30th causing an accumulation of glaze of 1/2 inch to 1 inch before ending early in the evening. Accumulated glaze downed trees and power lines, including one tree onto a car in Halifix in Halifax County.
