Ludington Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Severe storms brought down numerous trees and tree limbs as well as some power lines.
Twelve inches of snow was reported in Walhalla and Custer. There were also some power outages due to the weight of snow and freezing rain that also fell and a quarter of an inch of freezing rain was reported by the public near Custer.
Wind gusts of up to near 80 mph brought down several trees across portions of Mason county. Extensive tree damage was found along a twenty mile swath starting at Tamarack Park and ending near Lake Emerson. Power poles were also destroyed along Maple road.
A peak wind gust of 55 mph was measured at Ludington and peak gusts were estimated at up to 60 mph which resulted in numerous downed trees and limbs and power lines and widespread power outages.
An isolated severe thunderstorm near Ludington produced wind gusts estimated at around 60 mph that brought down some scattered trees and power lines. Seven eighths inch diameter hail was also reported in Ludington.

An upper level low pressure system in the Plains states moved across the southern Great Lakes region bringing a mix of moderate to heavy snow. There was also a period of freezing rain before precipitation changed over to snow and up to around a quarter of an inch of freezing rain accumulation was reported across portions of Mason and Lake counties. Ten to 12 inches of snow also fell across much of Mason and Lake counties which resulted in hazardous travel conditions and numerous power outages.
An isolated severe storm produce wind damage in the form of downed trees and power lines near Ludington and across portions of Mason county. Seven eighths inch diameter was also reported.
Low pressure intensified rapidly as it moved through lower Michigan March 2nd, bringing heavy snow and high winds. Six to ten inches of heavy wet snow fell across portions of Mason, Lake, Osceola and Newaygo counties. However much heavier snow with widespread power outages stayed just a little further north of those counties.
Damaging wind gusts brought down several trees and power lines.
